Yeah, all the experts have said that if they could wave a magic want that kept everyone at home (and family members 6ft from each other) this thing would be over in 2-3 weeks.

These half measures are just going to prolong it. People are now reporting that they are getting it even though they haven’t left the house in 3 weeks except for groceries. Jeez, I wonder where they got it....

The country needs to be locked down three weeks ago. It certainly appears that trump and government have taken half measures and are just gonna let this virus run it’s course and whoever dies is just collateral damage. Sorry. Economy and big corps more important that your life.

I mean last week you had politicians telling old people they need to be prepared to die for the economy.

Give it another few weeks and the general population might be saying that too.

Agreed, seemingly half of everything is considered essential.  Lots of people still moving around.

I drove up to Harris Teeter Sunday late afternoon to pick up a few things and there were still a lot of people out in my area of Charlotte. Lots of people in teeter as well.

There's a lot of self-determined essentials going on. We have contractors and electricians working in our house today ... our project isn't essential, but they want to be here. We'd send them home but have already been told that if they leave today then we have to wait to get back on their schedule and that could be months out, and they'll want payment for the project now.

I mean, what do you do? Luckily they are working in the bottom half of the house and my family has sequestered itself in the top half, so we're good and there's little contact, but dang man, really?

I mean...what am I missing here? The economy will bounce back. The market fluctuates. We can get it back on track but we need to worry about keeping our country healthy and safe. That is the first priority. fug your 401K.

I mean you are in a tough spot that is for sure. It’s not fair that they have this leverage over you like that. Government should enforce some sort of law that makes stuff like this illegal. Protect the consumer.

All construction, in any phase, is considered essential.  Its wack as hell but theres no distinction btw someone putting in a new swimming pool in time for the summer and repairing a roof  so it doesnt rain in the bedroom.

In the end, we're benefiting from their being here, to be honest. We'd like to be done with the project, too. And looking at it from the contractor's perspective, it is easy to see why continuing work on this right now is the best deal going. He has other things lined up afterwards (I hope --  he's a good guy and does quality work) and he needs to finish this, get paid and get to the next (for people who are also waiting). He also is at the mercy of subcontractors like electricians, plumbers and installers, so the more he can keep things moving, the less vulnerable he is to work stoppages for one of those.

Just going to have to hope they stay well, we stay well, everything gets done and happiness abounds on both sides. Besides, do you know how good it is to find a general contractor that really knows what they are doing and are fair and trustworthy? You just can't let one of those go when you find them.

And all of those folks have families to feed and bills to pay.

It’s not about the stock market. It’s about businesses still being around to bounce back. It’s about people having money to pay for food etc. I’m not saying I’m for this. However, what happens when people start seeing their jobs and companies disappear forever? Fear is a powerful force.

Government needs to foot the bill. Give these people money to keep their business afloat.

Its too tough to police the details or even come up with proper guidelines, so they aren't even trying.  Even within hospitals you have essential projects going on, and non-essential projects, and the same guys are going back and forth between the jobs.  I'm glad the government didn't try to step in and micro manage the industry.

I am against SIP orders, due to it really does not change anything, which it didn't you can still go places. Due to other reasons, I do not like the Government to "Force" things on people.

However, If we want to be "Serious" about this, we need to shut everything down. Unless you are a medical provider, Truck Driver, Construction Worker, Government Employee or some form of clerk ( Groceries, Pharmacy, Etc.) Shut it down... all of it. Block Roads, check ID's, close down parks, liquor stores, golf courses, gyms. Limit grocery stores to 10 people, meaning, if there is more than 10, you wait outside. Gas Stations are pumps only, no boats on lakes, no walking outside ( Limited to your neighborhood). ALL stores open during limited times, for certain people, and limited people inside the store.

However, this will never happen.
