Joe Brady is being underhyped

Recommended Posts

Uh, am I the only one that think he's not actually being underhyped? When the news broke about him being the new OC all i heard was praise from the media...Dare I say being overhyped...I don't know why the notion of him being underhyped would arise. His body of work is there and what he did with Burrow. I'm just excited to see his scheme. Having new eyes in there and saying that this offense will not be like it used to be. That is exciting. I don't think he will fail. But I am expecting growing pains.

The Kansas City Chiefs: 18th in the league in total defense. Defense wins championships is now a false statement.

BUT... their D stepped up big time in the playoffs.  Most everyone agreed if it weren't for their defense doing so they wouldn't have won it all.

No way they come back against the Texans if the defense didn't buckle down and keep them in it in spite of all the first half mistakes they made on offense and special teams.

Right? Like, he hasn't called plays before so we don't know how that will look for him situationally. I'm looking at year 1 as a learning experience for him as OC, with improvement into years two and three.

Rhule has given Brady the keys to the car, but since he just has his learners permit he still needs an adult in the car.  While he may have carte blanche to design plays, IMO Rhule will initially have authority over the game plan.  We may be planning to replicate NOs system eventually but their 60/40 passes/runs is not in his DNA.  He has always been around 50/50 and LSU was about 50/50 last year.  Everyone may be sorely disappointed when they realize the he is really “old school “ and prefers to “pound the rock” rather than “air it out”.

It's easy to be optimistic when Chud was the only legit offensive playcaller we had this decade lol. Some talk as if Shula or Norv we're in anyway better then Joe Brady.

No they didn't, the Texans were up 24-0 at one point in the divisional round.

No go back and look at WHY the Texans were up 24-0...

They still allowed 17 on drives with no turnovers and were pushed over in 1-2 plays after one of them.

The Panthers spent a majority of their draft choices in 10 years on defense and we see where that got us.

It's fact it's easier to play defense when your offense can score, it puts more pressure on the offense to not turn it over.

We get an interception we are either going 3 and out or putting under Ron the last few years, it's harder to play defense behind as well.

You think KC came back from that lead by having the offenses that Ron threw out his tenure here?

7 of those points were basically garbage time when the Chiefs were scoring at will, and another 7 came on a 2 play, 6 yard drive.

And I'm not talking about Ron.  I'm talking about the moronic hot take that defense is simply unimportant and should be disregarded.  The Chiefs aren't champs without a good defense.  I'm not suggesting you can have a piss poor offense either.  You need a well-balanced, well-coached team.

You're definitely not the only one.

He hasn't called a single play in the NFL and yet people have him penciled in as a head coach in one year.

I think you're misconstruing my optimism. Chud and Shula were running Norv's system. Before Cam when down he was having an MVP year. But unfortunately, that system itself was slow, it would become stagnant, it wasn't really explosive. I'm optimistic because of Brady's mind and even the uncertainty of the future. At least I know that the plays won't be long developing plays that break down. I don't think Brady will be the only person to make that offense competent. I am optimistic about the change in the guard and system more than anything and having a young mind and fresh pair of eyes really is exciting.
