was is Hurney or Gettleman that signed Van Roten to a 2-year $1.6 million dollar deal?  one of our better moves these past few years.

Both and here's why.  GVR was the first player signed once Hurney was brought back on board as the interim GM.  BUT, there was literally no time for him to evaluate GVR as the signing was literally just a few days later.  So the scouting department under Gettleman found him, but Marty was the GM that 'signed' him.  I think Gettleman gets the credit in this case.

On what basis do you presume to call him "below average"?

Wouldn't 9977 likes on 17667 posts earn you that rating, as a poster?

I guess, based on that criteria, that I'm an absolute poo poster. Thanks for making things clear for me!!

That’s a 4th round comp pick where Little moves into LG anyway.

No kidding. Sorry, but he’s not that good. I’d take a 4th round comp pick for him all day long. It’s just too bad we’ve screwed the pooch a bunch the past two years instead of loading up on available OL/DL instead of projects and trade ups. Oh well, comp picks are what we need to get depth and save some coin. Pats always get comp picks. That and Brady’s contract allowed them to keep rolling in cheaper guys so that when they needed to spend they could.

His ratings the past two years were 20th and 15th among LGs. I think last year’s rating was a bit generous. He was great at pulling, but he’s no better than average at the rest. Paying him $8-10M puts him in the top 10-15 range of all guards including guys like DeCastro and Mason, who are much better IMHO. It’s not a ridiculous overpay because FAs make more every year. I’m all for it because of the comp pick.

No. Hurney signed him to a 2 year deal in January of 2018.  A full season after Gettleman left.  He and Larson were signed within days of each other I think.

He was signed in 2017 before the season started by Hurney a few days after Gettleman left but extended a full season after he left.

Right, Hurney on the second deal in '18, but Gettleman/staff found him in '17 as Hurney just assumed the reigns.  Crossed-up my thoughts for a moment.  So I give Gettleman credit for finding him in '17, but Hurney get's the credit in '18 for re-signing him.

I hope he gets it. I liked GVR who had position flex and was constantly pooed on by the bitter folk of the huddle, who loved pooing on him because he wasn't the great Andrew Norwell. To pick up a guy for nothing who brings any kind of comp pick is a credit to how much better he did than he should have.
