Edit: Kyle Allen extended for 1 year

I'd like to bring him back. I don't think his hot start was all just luck. There is something there but he definitely got exposed. If he's able to come in briefly and play at a high level before defenses sniff him out then there is still some value in that. He looked a lot better than Grier.

It doesn’t hurt to keep KA around especially with the terms of his deal.  Grier has shown nothing but my thoughts when we initially drafted his was that he is a project.  That said chopping block is a bit drastic imo. Not saying he isn’t expendable but not sure I would give up on the project just yet.

definitely understand OPs position tho.

Grier (24) is older than Lamar Jackson (23), and has two years less experience, he never should have been the 3rd round selection. I think we should keep Kyle and see if he can be moved for a day 3 pick, I am not completely sold that we won't draft a QB in the 4th or later if someone decently mobile with an arm is available.

I know we re-signed a couple of exclusive rights guys a while back, but if we've tendered anybody, I missed it.

Tendered might be the wrong word. Those guys were likely released or on PS. No one can sign Allen but us and I know other teams have already signed or tendered their own EFRAs. It’s not like you are negotiating with a potential franchise tag. There’s no decision making. Either we want him or not, hence my assumption that we don’t.

There's no more obvious sign of the team tanking next season than starting Will Grier for a full season. They should trade McCaffrey if that is the case.

Good idea to trade CMC away knowing without him we have no RB that can do what he does on the team. Not smart trading a player that gets us points on the board.

There's only two reasons I could think of why he still wouldn't have an offer this close to the deadline.

One: They want to give him something more than just the standard ERFA contract.

Two: They don't want to give him anything at all.

Guess we'll see which scenario plays out.

Why? He’s 23 and a huge weapon and he’s still basically under contract for two years. He easily falls under a 5 year plan. Why don’t we trade Moore? He’s 1 year behind McCaffery in every way. You don’t trade away your best young talent that will be in their prime during the rebuild.

1 makes no sense. He’s an RFA in 2021. He’s pretty much playing for pennies the next two years, there’s no reason to wait or to extend him now. I think it’s pretty clear he’s not in the plans. That’s why I think we are still on the a Cam question. I can’t imagine anyone thinks Grier’s worth anything. I mean as bad as Allen played at times, he was obviously much better than Grier. Just look at week 17. Allen came in for Grier and was much better. Grier is also a year older than Allen, lol. What a wasted pick that was. Do you want a ROY candidate at DE in Crosby or Grier? Hurney, SMH. We had Crosby in for a private visit, we needed a DE. No one other than us thought Grier was better than Murray.

Allen need some good coaching and some protection to be effective. If you think of him as a rookie, then he performed better than you could expect. Those wins weren't on our defense and somehow we produced two players with over 1,000 yards receiving --- someone had to throw them the ball.

I say you keep Kyle on as the back-up and keep letting him get second team reps and carrying a clip board. He CAN turn into a respectable QB and perhaps the new coaching staff can do that. The cost isn't high to keep him and at a win vs dollars ratio, he was about as good as you could ask for.

Grier, whew, that's a tough one, isn't it? He has a pedigree and college experience, but he looked horrible out there. Of course, most of his team had quit by that point and he was being coached by Manny, Moe and Jack for all intents and purposes. I say bring him into camp and let him compete for that third string QB position.

That being said, my biggest worry is still Cam. We at least know that Allen and Grier can be medically cleared to trot out onto the field in September. Cam... I won't feel good until I see him pop up from a big hit in a pre-season game.

Not if we're tanking!

It's very possible they don't want him back, but you never know. As mentioned, his skill set does fit Brady's style.

With regard to Grier though, I wouldn't be so sure about that. Remember Rhule has been said to think a lot of Grier, owing largely to his performance against Baylor.

allen isn't terrible.  i thought he was pretty good at first.  the pouting defeatism he showed as the season wore on is something that concerns me about his makeup.    i think a lot of qb's could be better with good coaching, but can you coach what we saw out of him in that regard, or make him good enough where the issue doesn't come up?   cam has some of that too, but his talent level is just so much more than allens it really isn't that big of a deal, and cam has shown he can put it behind him in the 4th qtr.   i don't know if allen can ever do that.  if cam is ok it doesn't really matter.  if not i think grier has a better shot at landing us a high pick next year.
