Here's why we won't tank this year

Point is that the quick turnaround for SF wasn’t as quick as it seemed. 2018 was bad because Garoppolo missed the entire season. If he didn’t they probably were more like a 9-7 team in 2018.

Very true. The team was 6-10 the year before. And 2017 is the first year with Kyle Shanahan, following horrible years under Tomsula and Chip Kelly. 2017 is also the year that John Lynch came aboard as the GM. If we really want to look at the rebuild then 2017 is probably the best year to start with.

There were good pick ups in earlier drafts, but they were still developing players (or poorly utilized ones). Still, not a tanking set up, but a team building one.

2014 - 8-8

2015 - 5-11

2016 - 2-14

2017 - 6-10

2018 - 4-12

There was nothing ''quick'' about their turn around, it was 5 completely poo seasons, and a ton of high picks over half a decade that set up the run they had this past season. They traded for Jimmy G in 2017, and if he hadn't gotten hurt in 2018 where they finished 4-12 they are never in position to select Bosa. 

Not to mention they had four different coaches from - 2014 / 2015 / 2016 /2017 (Harbaugh, Tomsula, Kelly, and finally Shanahan), that organization was an absolute laughing stock until Lynch, and Shula showed up, but they also had the draft resources to work with, 2 seasons under .500 to start his tenure there, and three seasons at or below .500 before Lynch and Shanahan arrived. 

The rebuild really can't start until Lynch and Shanahan got to work. And for comparison purposes here, that should be where the beginning is. Prior to that, for the 49ers, is the reason for the rebuild.

NFL is dictated by offense. Not defense. This isnt the 1980s anymore. Our offense has a chance to be one of the best units in Football under Joe Brady, a healthy Cam/CMC/DJ Moore, and a rebuilt Oline. This offense has a chance to be the best one the Carolina Panthers have ever fielded. That alone can win you a good chunk of games. Playoffs? Probably wont happen until the Defense can become a top 12-15 unit.

Bro stop it...that rebuild started during that 5 season run of irrelevance, the only thing that changed really when Shanahan got there was the QB situation. 

Of the players that contributed the most on that crazy defense, 2 of the 3 (Armstead, 2015 & Buckener 2015) were on the team prior to Lynch & Shanahan, they just added onto that strength by adding Thomas, and Bosa most recently. 

That team we saw in 2019 was 5 years in the making, especially that defensive front. The real question is how will they maintain it with Jimmy's contract, and Armstead and Buckner's 5th year options expiring after 2020. They will both command premium $$$

Cam is back, there will be no tanking.  Yes the team might be bad, but that doesnt equate tanking.

The Carolina Panthers gave up 470 points last year. Only the Dolphins were worse. Only two teams scored more than 470 points last year. If we don't stop the other team a little from performing on offense, there is no way our offense can keep up.

if a healthy Cam is on the roster....there is no tanking.  Simple as that.  

The only way Carolina could tank would be to rid themselves of Cam.  A healthy Cam Newton = around .500 even w/ a slop team around him.

Regardless of what happened last season under that failed 3-4 scheme where players were giving up and giving very little effort once the season was over. Not to mention Rivera being fired halfway through the season. I guarantee the players on Defense play harder this year than last. I know we lost Luke but unfortunately he wasn't the same HOF LB he was in years past and he knew that so he retired.

Also a good offense doesn't put their defense into back breaking scenarios like our offense did to our defense last year. It's just going to be a completely different scenario. Our team might not have the best record next year but unlike last years team I'm sure we show a ton of potential and promise going into 2021 especially on offense

I’ve tried to explain that but no one pays attention. Our 2015 offense and 2019 defense was the 2019 Rams when you look at points differential. Our 2015 offense with the NFL MVP would have been a 9-7 and 8-8 team. That completely ignores the fact that the 2015 defense was #1 in takeaways by a decent margin and helped the 2015 offense score more. If it was the 2015 offense and 2019 defense, the point differential would likely lead to 7-9 maybe 8-8.

That’s why I want Brown at 7, although I really just want BPA because I know we need so much and I don’t care how bad we are this year. Frankly, I wouldn’t mind getting Lawrence or Fields if you like him better.
