I could see each of those and honestly, I wouldn't complain about them. All three seemed to be giving an effort all the way to wire last year. Still, if we didn't resign each of them, there'd be stand-ins that could do the jobs.

I think we should just try to focus on trying to field the best possible team we can and not purposely shoot ourselves in the dick to try to pick up an extra mid-round pick or two.

While I do agree with you on what you want the team to do, I just don't think losing any of these guys will cripple the team. Bradberry is the best player of the bunch, but if he doesn't command north of $9 million a year out there, I'd be surprised and that's more money than I'd feel comfortable guaranteeing him. (I've seen quotes north of $12 million on him.)

Some of our FA's need to come back, just in terms of filling a roster.  Speaking in general terms, it's usually cheaper to bring back your own FA's than sign someone elses.  I think guys who want to come back and compete at a reasonable price, you bring them back.  I don't think you sign any Gerald McCoy / Bruce Irvin types, we just don't need them.

I thought this, too, but then I realized that most of them could be replaced by, not guys off the street, but the generally nomadic group of journeyman players that come into and out of camps each year, or by draft picks.

Right now, there are players in the XFL that might be able to fill in a few of those positions -- not that the XFL has great players, it's just that many of these folks were JAGs when it comes down to it, no matter how much we might like them individually. You can also look to the CFL or practice squads up and down the league list. Basically, you look to give opportunities now and save some bucks in the process. And definitely give some guys down roster a chance to step up and perform.

I'd bring back Cockrell, Boston, and maybe Addison but that's it.  You have to field a team.  Otherwise, don't do anything to jeopardize comp picks we should get for McCoy, Bradberry, Butler, Irvin, and possibly Van Roten.  We may be looking at a couple of thirds for Bradberry and McCoy.  I believe Tampa got a third for McCoy last year.  If we think Addison can net a 4th, let him go as well.  Somebody will overpay for Butler as well based on his stats.  I could see a 5th for him and possibly a couple of 7ths for the others.  

Everything we do should be geared toward next year's draft.  Build the lines and defense with this draft.  And after we win 4 games, we should be ready to kill the draft in 2021 with about 10 picks including a top 5.  Everything we do should be in maximizing draft capital in 2021.

Yep. I'm thinking we're going to need to learn a lot more names this year than we have in the past. Regime change, right?

There's always a couple of lost players that really hurt. I think, though, that both of them left early on with the departure of Olsen and the retirement of Luke. Perhaps the rest will be pretty painless, but full of gain in the end.
