If tanking is really the goal...

It's been done for a position of less value. Running backs no less. If The 49ers went from picking second to the super bowl largely on defense off the bosa rookie of the year impact, and made a pro bowl why should you not? It's already known to be the second most important position in football so I dont see your logic. Oh I see you rather trade up for a QB already on injury life support... nevermind.

At least my plan has us trading up for a franchise QB.

Trading up for a DE would also take us out of the running for a QB in next year draft as well.

So I don't see your logic either...

us trading our entire draft wouldn't add up to enough lol, and that's on top of the fact that the skins would only accept an overpayment for a team moving up. 1st and 2nds are worth way more than the rest of the picks, so unless you're suggesting we trade our entire draft for one player, we can't without trading next year's first

How does drafting a defensive end take us out of anything lol the whole point of tanking IS to get Lawrence a qb NEXT year...

OP doesn't understand how tanking works. Hint you aquire draft capital not give it away.

I dont think you understand what your talking about. Tanking means actively trying to lose not caring about the up and coming season. What your describing is rebuilding an active effort to acquire capital to get better lol.

I think the term "tanking" and the misunderstanding of the meaning is the basis of about 75% of the arguments on here.

OP, I see your point. Bosa has made a major impact.

A tank though, means to intentionally not be a good team. This would contradict trading up to acquire an impact player that would immediately make the team better, that would be more like rebuilding and/or strengthening a team that is only a few pieces away from the playoffs or better.

In a tank mode, trading back and/or trading the talent on the roster that will acquire tons of picks for players that may or may not work out and kicking the tires cheaply on them for the next 3-5 years filters riff raff for the upcoming rebuild as well as puts little pressure on the players acquired. If some of them work out for cheap, suprise! a diamond in the rough and high quality (or better) players on the roster for super cheap. If all of them suck, no harm no foul cut them for free or cheap.

Here's the thing, what lead to the 49ers amazing turn around was more than just Bosa, he had what 9 sacks? It was the return of Jimmy G, the signing of the former falcons rb kid, a boat load of top 10 investments on defense and especially the line. Now we are headed in the opposite direction, would adding just Chase Young be enough to get us to the playoffs after losing Bradberry, Mccoy, Luke, Olsen, Trai, changing to a new defense and a host of other problems? I don't think so. But he would be a Great foundation to build apon and Wouldn't just out right win us games like say a qb would. With the goal being to get Lawrence next season(I am firmly a Cam believer tho) this is just all hypothetical talk. But, If some of those cheap diamonds do work out that you spoke of wouldnt that make us better next season and less likely to land the number 1 pick for lawrence? That is the opposite of what you do when your tanking for the draft NEXT season.

Injuries happen, busts happen, legal issues happen, and so on. With so much that can go wrong with an individual player coming out of college, it makes much more sense to mitigate that risk by acquiring *more* of these unknowns, not less. And especially so when you're basically starting fresh with so much uncertainty throughout the roster.

If we trade up for *anyone* I'll be really disappointed.

The chances of the diamonds in the rough actually working out are mighty slim. Do you really think drafting these guys would ruin the chance at draft position?

Now, with them on the roster, tons and tons of picks acquired, and lots more cap space, that is when you draft the guy you want. Let's say you don't get the #1 spot in the draft, or the position to be in to get him. That is when you use all the acquired assets to do so in trade packages.

Seems no good posters are awake to have a legitimate discussion but the huddle jackassery is up and open for business as always. Conservative as ever as always.

Your OP is silly and doesn't really warrant discussion. Nobody thinks it is realistic or a good idea. Not sure what you were expecting.

And why are you bringing up politics? Nobody else is.
