Trading for Okung wasn’t as bad of a decision As many people think.

OverTheCap has Okung making a little over 16 mil this year and a 13 million savings if designated a June 1st cut. He will be a 13 million savings if cut this year. Trai has a contract with 2 years left on it, if cut would have been roughly the same 13 million savings but almost 16 million in dead money to go along with that. So if we cut Okung then that’s a plus in this trade. If we keep him and he performs that’s a plus and then he will be a stop gap for the year at a good price for a proven LT who may not be who he was but isn’t terrible. If we keep him and he doesn’t perform guess what we still save money and have a back up to replace him. This trade was not a loss at all.

I dont think you’re following or understand. The reason OTC has his “cap hit” of 16 million this year. The chargers absorbed 3 million of it (unaccounted for guaranteed money). That’s why we only have a 13 million dollar cap charge, because we’re only paying his salary not any previous bonus money. His cash earnings this year was going to be 13 million regardless if he stayed a charger or got traded. The other 3 million you’re seeing is now dead money on the chargers books that he was already paid, not due to earn this year.

There are no post June 1 cuts in the final year of a CBA.

People trying to force themselves to make sense of us trading a 5 time pro bowl guard who was only 26 for a 31 year old LT who has health concerns and injury prone. lol

I find it hard to believe we couldn't fetch a draft pick for a 5 time pro bowl guard who still has upside to get back to the elite level he once was. Not even sure why we traded him honestly. He has no injury history and his contract was not that bad. Just a stupid trade considering we are rebuilding.

This can work if Okung can stay on the field..ppl just see Trai turner 5time pro bowler and think he’s amazing, his play has diminished ever since he got paid, he had some of the worst run blocking (his strength) grades the past two seasons and he only made the pro bowl as a sub for brandin Brooks last year, in 2018, subbed for Zack Martin, subbed in 2017 for scherff otherwise hes just a 2 time pro bowler. He was a beast back in the day but ever since he got paid, he’s been JAG. I really hope we get a draft pick in return with Okung b/c we’re taking more risk. Also, the age isn’t that big of a problem because whitworth played until 38, if Okung can play good until 35, that’s still 3-4 years of solid LT play. Plus it’s easier to find OG replacements than Tackles

I mean, if we turn around and cut him, that means we couldn't get a draft pick for Trai which makes no sense and Hurney is absolutely an idiot.

We're clearly hoping he plays for a season and then we let him go on his merry way.  Would have much just preferred a late draft pick and scrape the marketplace for a guy.

I think if the proposed CBA gets voted an approved by the players then the proposed CBA would go into effect when the new league year starts! The we could use post june 1st cut designations!

Ummm have you watched Okung??? He sucks buddy

Lmao I don’t watch the Chargers nor do I watch NFL players film in my spare time—unless they’re a draft pick or recent signee. I will watch him play and then assess how this trade went. I’m not going to give some BS immediate emotional response.

I'll trust our new OL Coach who was with Okung the past two years, and Rhule who has a background coaching offensive lines over most opinions.

Yes, Okung has an injury history and is older than Trai. However,  32 is not really "old" for offensive linemen. Okung takes the pressure off bringing Little back and tossing his concussions and ankle injuries back into the fire. Let Okung hold down Cam's blindside for a year, let Little polish his craft and in '21 we save a grip of cash and have Little ready to step in.

Sometimes, the glass is actually half full.
