well wait, can he still be a June 1st cut?  that would save $13 million,  Trai would have only saved $3 million.

I think they wanted out of Trai's contract.  Even if Okung makes the roster, we are one and done.  This very well could be creative cutting.  Maybe they are going to renegotiate the contract or cut him.  Nice post, wing.

Together, DVT and clots in lung arteries (called pulmonary embolisms) affect up to 600,000 Americans a year and kill as many as 100,000.

It only can kill 100k and Herniay traded up for Little too. That needs to be factored in all this. This is NOT a good look for Little or Daley at LT.

Its not a good luck for hurney. Just another wound. Third rounder wasted too. Oh and the first rounder.

Or its a good look for Little or Daley and the team feels like having Okung gives Little or Daley another year to develop.  Maybe they feel like one of those 2 have potential but just needs time.

If you felt like Little or Daley had zero potential you might be more willing to draft a LT really early in the draft and not spend $13 on Okung.  You can spin like you like, who really knows.

I know I need more optimism and give Rhule and his Baylor coaches/front office people time for his "process". Its been a rough 2 years and Luke retiring didnt help. I always told myself and others "As long as Luke and Cam are panthers, they can beat ANY team". I can not understand nearly ALL of the recent moves, they do not make sense, common or football. Herniay is giving me another hernia with trades like this, I can not spin it to see the optimism.

If you Okung is healthy, and I understand that is a big if, we got the better of the deal.

We traded a lower value position player (RG) for a higher value position player (LT) and their salaries are fairly close, roughly $4m difference.  For all of you saying Turner is the way better player what are you basing that off of.  Turner might have the best single season of the two, but over the entirety of their career, I'm not so sure.

Also you can make the argument that a "good" LT helps your team more than a "great" RG anyway.

That's not how it works. We still eat Turners bonus. The salaries look  close but in reality aren't even close.

ODD SWAP OF TRAI TURNER FOR RUSSELL OKUNG KICKS OFF WILD, WACKY PANTHERS REBUILD

Whether the objective would be pooling 2020 or 2021 picks was up for debate, but the most attractive path for Carolina involved cashing out on their investment for new draft capital to reset their roster and strip down salary cap.

This is what makes the actual trade between the Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers so odd because the Panthers did indeed trade Turner. But instead of hauling in a mid-round draft selection, the featured piece of the trade return for Carolina is a 31-year old veteran offensive tackle in Russell Okung. Okung, who is in the last year of his contract, is owed just $7 million less than Turner was due over the final two years of his own respective contract, so the Panthers' decision to bring Okung into the picture doesn't even seem to provide much cash relief on the surface level either.
