Exactly. Really strange how people just cannot comprehend this. The objective was to save loads of money going forward. That’s what we were actually trading for

There were better ways to go about it if that was the goal.

What happened here isn't that complicated. Turner was on the outs with the Panthers anyway and Russell Okung wasn't expected back with the Chargers. Pat Meyer came in and said "hey, let's trade for this guy I used to coach". The leadership liked the idea and here we are.

I seriously doubt there's much more to it than that.

Exactly. If you’re trying to save $20M, taking on $13M in one year isn’t a smart way to do it. Oh well, I have no faith that Hurney has any clue on a plan. We aren’t retooling to go for the playoffs and we are fully rebuilding so WTF are we trying to do, go 7-9?

I know Giants are set at OG and one is getting top 5 salary. Bills should have a better offer, by far. Like many recent moves, this doesnt make sense, common or football. I know the probowl is terrible, hes still a 5x one at only 26 years old. Got to be missing a big part of story, his value can not be waiver tier with his history. Plus along with having blood clots in his lungs, he seems like a great guy to have in the locker-room, helping the young Little and daley with his understanding of the league and its owners.....https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/26/sports/football/nfl-okung.html

Agree to disagree. I just don’t think the leadership loved the idea of “hey, let’s trade a RG for a 3rd average LT”

Regardless, even if that was the plan we will save cap space in the long run so I’m still pretty fine with this

Lol. It’s funny that people are saying having a Okung will help Little and Daley. Aren’t the coaches there for that and how exactly do you develop on the bench?

We save $7M. We could have saved $20M if this was just a cap move. I just don’t feel like we have any clue what we’re doing. Just taking the first offer.

The only thing I have read that has made some sense regarding this trade is from Kyle Crabbs. He stated this must be a move to take on some cap space from the Chargers in order for us to trade Cam to them for purely draft picks. Idk, but this is the only sense I can make out of this. He also said if its not it'll have the entire leagues head shaking what the Panthers are doing here lol.

I wonder if this means the Chargers will draft a tackle in the first? If they're smart they will, otherwise their offensive line will be worse than last season.

Maybe this pushes Simmons or another defensive player to the Panthers' pick?

If you Okung is healthy, and I understand that is a big if, we got the better of the deal.

We traded a lower value position player (RG) for a higher value position player (LT) and their salaries are fairly close, roughly $4m difference.  For all of you saying Turner is the way better player what are you basing that off of.  Turner might have the best single season of the two, but over the entirety of their career, I'm not so sure.

Also you can make the argument that a "good" LT helps your team more than a "great" RG anyway.

Got to think that and then they trade a 2021 first to us for Cam? Only way this trade would make sense for us

Together, DVT and clots in lung arteries (called pulmonary embolisms) affect up to 600,000 Americans a year and kill as many as 100,000.

It only can kill 100k and Herniay traded up for Little too. That needs to be factored in all this. This is NOT a good look for Little or Daley at LT.

Reminder that Hurney just traded up in the second round to select Little, the future franchise LT.

Hurney is incompetent and should be walked through downtown Charlotte in chains so people can throw rotten tomatoes at him. I’d make the trip.

Or its a good look for Little or Daley and the team feels like having Okung gives Little or Daley another year to develop.  Maybe they feel like one of those 2 have potential but just needs time.

If you felt like Little or Daley had zero potential you might be more willing to draft a LT really early in the draft and not spend $13 on Okung.  You can spin like you like, who really knows.
