Panthers Are Trading OL Trai Turner To LAC For LT Russell Okung

Personally, I like this trade for several reasons.

First, we all know Trai has been on the decline, and becoming injury prone. Although, he could return to his true potential, it's not guaranteed. Second, we're getting a left tackle for a guard. Left tackles are impossible to find, it's probably the second most difficult position to fill behind quarterback. Okung is a better than average left tackle when healthy. Finally, it gives the Panthers room to sign players in the upcoming seasons. Trai's contract was going to bog the Panthers down, but with the trade it really opens up room in the future.

Could it be a bad trade? Yes, but it depends more on Okung's health more than anything, Turner's as well.

The way I see it, Turner was worthless. It's an even trade at worse.

So the Chargers have no LT.  So the only way they do this trade is if they already have in their plans to sign a FA QB and take a Tackle at 7.

If not they would be putting a new Rookie QB on his death bed with no blind side protection.  And your not getting a Starting QB and LT out of the same draft.

Not much. If Okung is $13M this year and Trai was $20.5M we saved $7.5M. Trading Trai for a 3rd saves you a poo load more.

There's no way anyone would have traded a third round pick for a guard with Trai's contract.

4th, whatever. If you’re dumping for salary, taking on 65% of the saving in one year seems stupid. Dude is a multi-year pro bowler who when motivated was solid. Salary isn’t bad. If he sucks you’re out a 4th and only $10M. LAC can cut Turner next year and pay $3M less overall than keeping Okung.

Id honestly just preferred to cut Turner, if this was the best offer. I cannt believe a 5x probowl(of course its poor) at 26 years old value is that of a blood clotted 31 year old LT with only one year at 13 million.

Exactly. If you’re trying to save $20M, taking on $13M in one year isn’t a smart way to do it. Oh well, I have no faith that Hurney has any clue on a plan. We aren’t retooling to go for the playoffs and we are fully rebuilding so WTF are we trying to do, go 7-9?
