Not that I care one way or another...

Anyone think that the orders to purge these players/contracts are coming from above Hurney?

Just curious,  everyone is so quick to blame Hurney.

Everyone also wanted to move on from Ron Rivera, and i warned all of you that would be a complete change, ie.,  new chapter in this Panthers franchise.

Those who have been griping forever about settling for mediocrity,  why can't you wrap your mind this is part of the process of changing that culture you swear you can't stand?

Ya don't want mediocrity,  but ya don't want to trust these men to get the franchise into the new chapter either.

I’m fine with it. I can’t believe someone posted that we should let Short play out his contract as if paying him $28.5M over the next two years is smart. If we can get a 3rd or so, I’d be more than happy to draft a G and save $19.5M on Turner (accounting for rookie salary) over the next two years. The way Short and Turner played the past two years is how we got to way below mediocrity. Turner was awful this year.

What can we get for a very expensive guard, even a young one with multiple Pro Bowls?

Someone above mentioned a 3rd.  I'm not sure there's a market for him that high.  While this off season is going to be probably the most interesting one we've ever had, it's going to suck.  I just don't see us picking up much draft capital unless it's for Cam and Christian.

I'm sure whatever team trades for him would renegotiate the contract. Stop acting like ya don't know how these things work.

Ok, this guys not very smart. His numbers are wrong. If we trade him there is a one time hit in 2020. Dude doesn’t know how to read the tables. If we trade or release him in 2021 then that 2021 number applies.

Here it is in plain English:

Play out contract - $30M cap hit over 2020 and 2021 ($20.5M is NEW salary and roster bonus)

Trade or release in 2021 - $18.5M cap hit over 2020 and 2021

Trade or release in 2020 - $9.6M cap hit over 2020

So trade him now and save $3.2M in 2020 and $17.2M in 2021. The reason why the cap savings is more than his above is that he didn’t read the voided years where the restructuring (yep Marty did him too) bonus is $1.8M over 2022 and 2023.

Same with Short, not having him on the roster the next two years saves us $28.5M in NEW money.

Dead cap doesn’t change. That’s from bonuses already paid so that will work it’s way onto our cap whether they are here or not. It’s the new money we save. For Turner, it’s $20.5M over two years and for Short, it’s $28.5M over two years. If we can get a pick for Turner in a rebuild and save $49M in cap space for both, I’d do it. They’ve been mediocre at best the past two years and they are getting paid like top guys, which they aren’t.

Thank you for posting this.

I was trying to figure out how we have so much dead cap in a guy that we trade away. I understand if we cut/release him outright that it hurts our cap over the next 2 years, but couldn't understand how a trade would.

I think the best we can get for him is a high 4th rounder. If his salary was lower, maybe a 3rd. Who knows..... but with Hurney behind the wheel, I don't trust his negotiation skills, TBH.

Turner has been mediocre at best since signing his deal and don't think losing him is anything more than a body taking up a lot of cap space. Maybe Daley is that guy....idk.

Why would a team negotiate a contract with no guaranteed money on it and a base salary they had to find acceptable to make the trade in the first place. That’s what other teams would want to trade for. Not the right to give him even more money. Stop acting like you know how these things work.

This is such an OL rich draft it would be great to get a draft pick for him. Of course other teams are like - it's such an OL rich draft why am I giving you a draft pick?

Probably more likely to get something for him after the draft from a team that missed selecting their guy(s) and adding something for next years draft. Realistically I just don’t see ya moving him for much of anything. But if we could get a 3rd or better then I would certainly be on board
