QB Love could be the third QB taken in draft, this could get us calls for a trade down.

This could be very interesting if this goes down which could field calls to trade out of the 7 spot or maybe even consideration to drafting Herbert?

Utah State quarterback Jordan Love has been getting a lot of buzz after a strong performance at the Scouting Combine.

Love looked the part at 6-foot-4 and 224 pounds, and he worked out well enough that there’s increasing chatter that he may be the third-best quarterback in the draft, behind LSU’s Joe Burrow and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa. Dave Hyde of the South Florida Sun Sentinel suggests that Love could be the Dolphins’ target with the fifth overall pick if Burrow and Tagovailoa are both gone before then.

Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert has usually been named as the No. 3 quarterback on the board, but Love may be giving Herbert a run for his money.

Love decided to forego his senior season at Utah State after throwing for 3,402 yards, with 20 touchdowns, 17 interceptions and a 61.9 percent completion rate, as a junior in 2019. His numbers don’t scream “Top 5 pick,” but some teams may think he is.

Another article: Love for Jordan Love. I stopped in my tracks walking by a TV on Thursday night, hearing NFL Network’s Marc Ross saying of Utah State quarterback Jordan Love, “His potential far exceeds Tua.” So I found Ross, 11 years a top personnel executive with the Giants, and asked for an explanation.

“If you actually watch Jordan on tape, watch the traits he has, the playmaking ability, the innate feel for the game, the feel for the pocket, the poise, that will transfer well to the NFL,” Ross said. “When you would watch him every game, there were those ‘oh my gosh’ plays that you just have to keep rewinding . . . I have been banging his drum for a while saying that he was my second favorite guy. When you watch Utah State and Jordan Love’s cast, he was under siege every play, just about. With Tua, or Joe Burrow, they have layup plays where the scheme, the protection’s there, there’s a wide receiver open every time.

“Jordan Love didn’t have any layups in his offense. He’s got these receivers who will be nowhere close to NFL receivers who are tightly covered. He has to overcome all that on every play. Whereas, the Tuas and Joe Burrows, they just really have to make five or six tough plays a game, three-pointers. Jordan Love, every play for him is a three-pointer, or beating his man off the dribble to try to score.”

Do you think he would be in contention for our pick? I personally don’t want a QB picked this year. I would like both interior lines boasted this year. Saying this, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Hurney make this pick..Jordan Love seems like a wild card type pick

if love is there i think you take him, then beef up the interior OL in rds 2-4, then bpa.

I think love will end up being a very good QB but man that would be hard to take knowing Brown, Simmons, Okudah and any OT we want would be available.

Ask yourself if you were at pick 7 in the 2011 draft, a comparable level of top talent, would you trade out of 7 to a mid round pick? I can’t say that I would.

In fact, Cleveland forewent Julio Jones at 6th in 2011 and took Phil Taylor later that round, Greg Little in round 2, Owen Marecic in round 4, Brandon Weeden the next year in round 1, and a 4th round pick used to trade up for Trent Richardson.

We aren’t the Browns, but would you have rolled the dice on that instead of just taking Julio Jones? In my opinion there’s no way we should trade down in this draft.

Depends on what you do with the picks.

Do you grab Cam Jordan, and two starters in the 2nd since we didn't have a 2nd round pick since Marty Hurney is an idiot and traded our 2nd rounder the year before of a QB out of App State?

Love could be the next Mahomes or the next Rosen or Kizer. Wouldn’t want him at 7 and don’t think he’d be a reason for a team to overpay us to trade up to our spot. I think we should stand pat and take BPA. Regardless of position. We need help everywhere except RB.

Not much on drafting a LB at 7, but I can see Marty pulling the trigger....but I agree, we need help at every single position group not named runningback.

Look at my edit about Cleveland. I’m not saying we can’t make it work but I don’t like the risk.

Oh, it's certainly a risk, but the 11 draft just happened to be one where I could justify the trade back because of how deep that draft was, I think this is just as good of a draft, but maybe not as top heavy as that one.

Those years the Browns made every mistake possible even when they didn’t move at all. Using them as an example is bad because they did literally make every bad move they could regardless of where they picked. I laugh when people try to equate why you don’t rebuild with we don’t want to be the Browns because they were so bad at drafting it was comical.

For giggles, they had 9 1st round picks from 2011-2016, this is what they got:

Mingo, Johnny Football, Richardson, Weeden, Phil Taylor, Danny Shelton, Cameron Erving, Justin Gilbert and Corey Coleman.

They literally got nothing out of 9 first rounders in 6 years. 4 of the 9 didn’t even get to their 4th year in the NFL. Not did they want to extend the 5th year option, almost half their picks didn’t even last long enough in the NFL to be considered for a 5th year. 4 of 9 were gone before they finished their rookie deal. The last one played 4 years with them and is out of the NFL. Lol, it’s still funny to think that 1 of their 9 first rounders made it to the end of his rookie deal and then he didn’t even play another down in the NFL. Pretty sure those 6 years are the worst 6 years of 1st round picks ever assembled and it’s not close, which is why trying to compare anyone to the Browns is a bad idea.

By the way, I do agree on not trading down. I want a stud and pick 7 is all but guaranteed a stud. Trade down and your risk increases. I think this looks like a really good draft but I want a stud and then just make good picks at 38 and 69 and we should have a good draft.

Free agency lurks.  It could be that Cincy signs Bridgewater, for example---would that not shake up the universe?  I am throwing in some HILARIOUS puns for your enjoyment, since we all can say that we love puns.

Teams we KNOW need a QB (pre-free agency):

  • Bengals Prolly going with the donkey--(Burrow--they get better)
  • Dolphins--Most have one dorsal fin, but these Dolphins want Tua
  • Chargers--Are they in Love with Herbert, or are they in Love with Love?
  • Indy--If only Luck retired a year earlier, I could make an Indiana (Daniel) Jones pun, but I will go with, "Man(ning), the Colts are out of Luck; looking for some new guy to Eason into the job."  (seriously, I see them going after Herbert or Love)

Teams that MIGHT need a QB (pre-free agency) enough to draft one in round 1 and are in position to move up for one:

  • Detroit--rumors abound that they are ready to move on from Stafford--are they lion? (cringe)
  • Bucs trying to kick the Winston habit--and this kind of cancer has no crab legs (that one was deep, requiring a knowledge of the tobacco industry and the Zodiac)
  • Las Vegas:  What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas--especially when you lose your Carr.  (Could the Raiders roll the dice on a new signal caller?)
  • Jacksonville: They have a Gardner, now all they need is water for their crops to grow--Bridgewater?

No more HILARIOUS puns:

Detroit is the wild card team that could change this draft entirely.  I think they trade out.

Bridgewater wild card free agent.  Where he goes could change the draft.

This is why keeping Cam right now is smart--it takes away your desperation and gives you options.  At the moment, Indy #13, Tampa Bay #14 seem to be in the QB market--they will have to move up.  However, Jacksonville at #9 could be interesting.

Let's say that Burrow, Tua, and Love are gone by #6.  There will be teams going after Herbert.  Keeping Cam allows the Panthers to have a bidding war---I imagine--if Indy or Tampa Bay start bidding, we are looking at a first rounder in 2020 and maybe a first in 2021.  We have a healthy Cam Newton, can draft someone like Jeudy, Kinlaw, or MLB Murray--a player said to have patterned his game after Luke--and then you have 2 first rounders to get into the QB hunt in 2021 should you let Cam go then.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
