How many times are we going to keep rebuilding the position? At some point you’re going to have to pay guys or you’re going to be in a constant state of rebuilding.

It sure feels like we are either building players and letting them walk away or over-paying players who eventually under perform. Literally no in-between with us.

Ok, so.... The franchise tag for CBs is 16 mil and teams are willing to offer 15 mil per year deals?  Isn't this an obvious tag and trade scenario?

I mean, there is a chance we net a late 3rd compensatory pick if we let him walk, but then we are restricted in FA.

Am I missing something? Tag his butt and trade him to the Jets for an early 3rd.

I don’t understand it either. I get not wanting to overpay being that we are rebuilding, but why just take a comp pick next year when we could trade for a third in this years draft which will still be higher up than the comp pick

I highly disagree. I wish we could keep him because now we are right back in a disaster state at CB with only Jackson returning who was benched at the end of last season. James was our only dependable CB. You are going to get beat from time to time, no CB is really shut down anymore, but he more than held his own against the leagues top WR. Also...if he sucked like you are saying he wouldn’t command over 15 million a season like he is going to get

We had the worst defensive performances down the stretch than I've seen since I dedicated my Sunday's to the Panthers, and that even goes back to the 2011-2012 mid-game collapses.

Reminded me a lot of 2010, 2019 did. Allen is better than Clausen was, but the overall result was similar.

Daryl Worley outplayed Donte last year. I’m wondering if most fans even realize that Worley’s been a decent CB for the Raiders starting the last year and a half.

I wasn't aware. I looked up his stats (after seeing your message) and he had less tackles per game than he had in any season with us, less passes defensed than with us, only 1 interception, no forced fumbles. But I do know stats don't tell the whole story. Hoping he's turning it around then.

Cornerback James Bradberry made it clearat the end of the 2019 season that he is looking for a big payday this offseason and it looks like his chances of landing it are going to be pretty good.

It also looks like he’ll be landing that deal with a team other than the Panthers. The Panthers could use a $16 million-plus franchise tag on Bradberry, but TheAthletic.com reports that the team isn’t going to move in that direction and also won’t hit Bradberry’s asking price for a multi-year deal.

Per a report from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, that asking price is believed to be in the neighborhood of $15 million and it appears there are a lot of teams willing to shop at that end of the market. Connor Hughes of TheAthletic.com reports the Jets were one of 22 teams to check in on Bradberry and his colleague Rhiannon Walker put Washington in that group as well.

Washington’s new head coach Ron Rivera coached Bradberry in Carolina and Bradberry said last month that he’d be happy to be reunite with his former coach.

Who cares?

TBQH he was one of the softer players on defense at times.

Yeah, he can cover okay, but he got beat just as much as anyone.

I never saw any fire out of him or any kind of grit or swag.

Let him be someone else's cap anchor. Move on.

Ya... no. He’s a shutdown corner and he’s going to get paid like one.

I don’t understand why they won’t either. Surely we can get at least a 3rd (Sanu brought a freaking 2nd round pick). Bradberry has made it clear he wants to be the highest paid so I bet he wouldn’t care where traded as long as they sign a mega contract to go with it.

Part of the reason hes in demand, is cause you dont need to trade picks AND pay him.

The best CB on the market is Jones, by far. Bradberry is everyones backup plan if they dont land him.

Its still possible, Jarvis Landry was tagged and traded for a 3rd. Guess who is the panthers GM, tho..... The same guy who blew his chance to get a cheap deal done, before this new insane starts.

I'm sure the Panthers negotiated with Bradberry, Bradberry knew his value after defending Mike Evans twice in 6 weeks.Stats are inaccurate., you can't compare Bradberry's stats (guaranteed 6 starts vs top 8 WRs) to a CB from like the NFC East this year (we're a couple rolls of the ball away from a losing record division champion). That is similar to comparing Power 5 corner stats to sunbelt corner stats in college. People saying that a man who in 4 years has built up 24 starts vs the NFC south powerhouse of receivers (everyone but us lmao) and was not even responsible for the Julio mess in 2016 is not worth 15m. We all cheered Gentleman's name during the offseason of 2016 for doing the same thing we're doing now, weeks into the season, we are setting NFL records on defense... We scored 34 that day, I'm confident they don't score as much if Josh was here (nor does Denver beat us). That one decision single handily cost the Panthers any chances at a return trip to the SB. Denver doesn't score 20 if Josh Norman is CB, 34 is enough in Atlanta. 3-1 start instead of 1-3, perhaps the Saints don't start a shootout that supercam had to show up for us to keep up with.  Josh Norman reasonably changes the result of the season from 1-5 to 5-1... This is literally the same thing over again, we have NOTHING back there. If we come out with Trevor Lawrence from it, fine. But don't convince me we're trying to win, we know the ending of this story; maybe Julio gets 400 and 7 tds this time.

P.S. Many judge Bradberry because he doesn't have many interceptions. But that's because of tight coverage.  If we're not trying to win, cut Cam and give Bradberry 5 years, a 15 million dollar signing bonus and 15 million salary. That would make his hit 11.25 for 4 years... If we're gonna suck let's get ahead on contracts and cut old farts.
