Bradberry drawing significant interest ahead of free agency. Not expected to be back with the Panthers

He's a good guy with skills, but in the end it's gonna be what it's gonna be. Money talks.

Well, if we're in rebuild mold for this season, then we might as well rebuild at that position, too. Let's break in a new CB while we are already planning on having a down year. Literally a good draft class for so many positions that this may time out well for us.

Cornerback James Bradberry made it clearat the end of the 2019 season that he is looking for a big payday this offseason and it looks like his chances of landing it are going to be pretty good.

It also looks like he’ll be landing that deal with a team other than the Panthers. The Panthers could use a $16 million-plus franchise tag on Bradberry, but TheAthletic.com reports that the team isn’t going to move in that direction and also won’t hit Bradberry’s asking price for a multi-year deal.

Per a report from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, that asking price is believed to be in the neighborhood of $15 million and it appears there are a lot of teams willing to shop at that end of the market. Connor Hughes of TheAthletic.com reports the Jets were one of 22 teams to check in on Bradberry and his colleague Rhiannon Walker put Washington in that group as well.

Washington’s new head coach Ron Rivera coached Bradberry in Carolina and Bradberry said last month that he’d be happy to be reunite with his former coach.

Donte Jackson is Donte's worst enemy. He can go the way of Josh Norman (in his Prime) or Daryl Worley. Coaching &  discipline can only go so far. Some accountability falls on the players as well.

Daryl Worley outplayed Donte last year. I’m wondering if most fans even realize that Worley’s been a decent CB for the Raiders starting the last year and a half.

Bradberry knew his value. He would have been an idiot to sign an extension last offseason. How are you sure we didn’t approach him for an extension?

Agreed. He had no injury history. Same with people complaining about FAs we didn’t get. How do we know someone like Whitworth would have even considered coming here over Los Angeles? We sometimes act like we can sign anyone we want at any time for any amount. It doesn’t work that way in real life. Sometimes people want to play somewhere else and sometimes they have agents telling them how to maximize their value.

Problem with Bradberry is we don’t know if we’ve seen his ceiling or not. No doubt he is a good player but he’s no Gamble or Norman. And it might not be worth shelling out the money to see and find out.

...he'll get paid and turn to sht.... seems thats the in thing.

Ok, so.... The franchise tag for CBs is 16 mil and teams are willing to offer 15 mil per year deals?  Isn't this an obvious tag and trade scenario?

I mean, there is a chance we net a late 3rd compensatory pick if we let him walk, but then we are restricted in FA.

Am I missing something? Tag his butt and trade him to the Jets for an early 3rd.

As much as I would like him to stay, it doesn't make sense to sign him to 15m a year even if we had it to spare. Our Dline is atrocious, we cant stip the run and we aren't going to get pressure on the QB. No CB is going to be able to cover when the QB gets all day to throw or they constantly have to watch for a RB that's blown past our front 7.

If we were a win away from the playoffs I'd say do it, but we aren't and are going to have more pressing needs.

What happens when other teams don’t want to.give up a draft pick AND pay him 15/yr? They know you just want to trade him so why offer much when the other teams know you don’t want to pay him in the first place. Then you’re paying 16M for a rental and the comp pick is another year down the road. And the same hole at CB again.

Can anybody explain to me why we don't tag him and trade him since he has suitors?

Seems like we just wasting a good asset by allowing him to walk for free. What is the downside of a sign n trade for us?

All this does is just create another hole on defense. I get we are rebuilding but at least try to make use of your only assets. We could get a 2nd round pick for Bradberry easily with his market value.

This rarely happens in the free agency era.

No team is goi g to cough up picks, plus a major contract. Not when they can just wait and outbid us.

It's actually in the Panthers best interest to let it happen the normal way, because out comp pick mill definitely be higher than any pick we could get via trade.

We would need to contact teams and his agent ahead of this move. The tag wouldn't happen without a deal in place.

James.is the best CB we've had since he's been drafted. No one else comes close.

Marty should set a value for him, offer him a contract, and let him test free agency. He'll either accept our offer, or he'll walk, and we'll get a 3rd comp next year.

No rocket science to it.
