Bradberry drawing significant interest ahead of free agency. Not expected to be back with the Panthers

Some people don't understand rebuilding around here. We will suck for a few years and we will be able with good drafts to replace him. No doubt we will suck this year and next but it's about the future.

We’re always rebuilding. That’s the problem.

Well that’s what most of this board wants. They pine for us to trade our best players for picks and then when some of those players pan out, trade them for more picks. Then trade those good players for more picks.  Case in point, the numerous people advocating trading Cam, CMC and Moore.

At this juncture, he needs to walk, but he should have been signed last season, but we have a blind man behind the wheel, and an inexperienced captain asleep in his bunk.

I hear this a lot but...this isn't Madden. A lot of rookies are gonna want to be paid what they think or they're gonna walk. For a lot of players it's their only BIG payday. There's nothing to suggest that Bradberry would want to sign last season for cheaper.

I am in favor of letting him walk and re-signing Ross Cockrell for a much more affordable price

True that. It’s also important to see if Rhule can resurrect Jackson’s development. He’s got the tools to be a great corner.

Because last year the team had the leverage of him making 20M+ guaranteed before he took another snap or practice. Now he’s getting paid somewhere and the team has no leverage because he will gladly take the tag and still be a FA next year. And the team is out 16M, and still has a hole to fill for the future.

We don't know if he would or would not have, but did we even try?  I never heard a peep of us attempting to negotiate with him last offseason.

For many players who have made very little money so far, the thought of taking a lot of cash now, before a full offseason and season, all the while risking injury and the tag getting slapped on you vs. waiting a year, hoping to stay healthy and make more money, isn't always a good idea.

We at the very least should have heard about the Panthers talking with his side, and we should be hearing the same about Moton right now....be we aren't.

That said, he was our 2nd best defender last season, and would likely be our best defender this season....as awful as that sounds.

Bradberry knew his value. He would have been an idiot to sign an extension last offseason. How are you sure we didn’t approach him for an extension?

Did you hear about us negotiating Shaq’s extension before he signed it? Some things are kept in the office.

I have an uncommon opinion of Bradberry. He’s a good tackler but lacks ball skills (pass breakups- 47 in 4 years and interceptions - 8).

Last year he ranked:

  • 26th in passes defensed by CB,
  • 20th in tackles by CB, and
  • 22nd in interceptions by CB.

He plays tight coverage but a good QB and great WR (what both Atlanta and New Orleans have) will beat him if they force a ball into his coverage area. I don’t want to see him walk, but I wouldn’t pay him more than $12M per year. He’s an above-average CB and better than what we currently have on the roster, but he’s not worth breaking the bank.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
