Extending Shaq vs Bradberry... another Hurney mistake?

It’s hard to say really but with that said if the Panthers are always wondering who they would be better off OVERPAYING, they’ll never be a competitive team. The mistake is Hurney’s ability to draft reasonable alternatives, or even more so obtain them in FA so we aren’t stuck. But also waiting too late then paying them for their past. The number 1 draft pick and draft itself is like 20% of his job.

There’s lots of angles to take as to what this franchise is doing wrong but I don’t think whether we overpaid for BB or Shaq specifically is the issue/mistake.

TBD. We all thought getting rid of Norman was a huge mistake(it was in the WAY that we did it, admittedly) but in hindsight it was a smart decision to NOT pay him. I think that may end up happening with Bradberry. We will just have to see how he fares elsewhere, assuming he does get that top 5 contract.

It's pretty obvious that Hurney tried to negotiate with both and he and Bradberry weren't anywhere in the same ballpark whereas Shaq was willing to come to terms at the numbers Marty was throwing out. You can't simultaneously be mad for not extending Bradberry and then complain that he's not worth the $15 million he's demanding. Also, everyone complains that Hurney overspends to keep his own draft picks and now wants to complain that he's not willing to make Bradberry ther highest paid cb in the nfl. Make up your minds. We can also afford to extend both if we really want to. This isn't an either/or scenario.

With the release of Thomas Davis and the Retirement of Luke Kuechly, the resigning of Shaq Thompson was a must, albeit I wasn't expecting the size of the contract.

True, although one would have thought that letting Norwell go and knowing Kalil was retiring (from us) would have gotten us at least one interior OL draft pick in the past two really strong interior OL drafts. It didn’t, just UDFAs and a C who we clearly know now wasn’t remotely healthy coming off of a season ending injury (one reason I want to cut bait on Short now).

We don’t seem to be doing a lot of future thinking, more reactionary thinking. Hoping the new staff will change that.

I just don’t get what Thompson has consistently done, other than being the last lb standing, to get that type of money. Truly

he gets run over. He is out of position frequently. There several Upcoming  rookies who are bigger and better

how many impactful plays has he made?

I just don’t get what this team is anymore... they are going through a rebuild and they chose to sign an average linebacker to star caliber money  before the new staff is in place

If we drafted a G in the second last year you’d complain about Carolina not thinking about the future by not selecting a LT.

Marty tried to negotiate with him and it stalled.  If Bradberry wants 15 mil and the Panthers are not willing to pay that, then how did Hurney make a mistake?

Not signing Bradberry to a top tier contract was the right decision.

Not sure signing Shaq was a good Idea before the new coaching staff was in place, but here we are.

What has Samuel done to deserve an extension at this point?

Play through 2-3 qbs who have all failed to deliver to him what he does best which is the deep ball. Beyond that his scoring per touch last season through reverse or toss was impressive. Imagine what he could go with a legitimate deep ball is the idea here.
