I'm honestly not savvy on contracts... Could Carolina offer Cam a fair long term deal that for year 2 to activate, it requires him to start 13 or more games?  That honestly sounds like a fair balance for both sides. I'm sure Cam would be ok with something like that as he believes in himself.

I don’t think so, CBA has general guidelines that must be adhered to. May be wrong though.

Looking at the DC we need to get these positions IMO.  I am removing Greg Little as a guy we can depend on as he was really bad last year.

Assuming 4-3 defense...

LT, LG, C, WR, TE, LB, DT, FS, CB

Fill some of those with good young talent in free agency and pick best players you can in the draft.  Go with that for now.

Free agents I like:

Cory Littleton - expensive but he can play

Maurice Canady - good player and could come somewhat cheap compared to Bradberry

Tre Boston - he is better than some think and worth a decent contract

Hunter Henry - would obviously be a good signing if affordable although his injury rate is worrisome 

Draft the best players you can and I would consider a move down in round 1.

It might be best for the Panthers, but for Newton he's assuming a huge risk. If he gets injured again or even just plays poorly this season, his future earning potential is out the window.

I think it's logical to expect that Newton's next contract, assuming he gets one, will have some causes in it to protect the team that gives it to him.

But being able to void a multi-year contract after a single year? I think that's a bit much.

I was thinking if we offered like 25 million the year 2 but incentives in the contract where if we win 10+ games he gets a bonus, MVP , super bowl, make the playoffs. I don't think it's outrageous, he is ultimately under contract.

I wouldn't be willing to offer a single penny that would increase his future dead money if he were to retire, or get injured.

It's just bad business.

If they were going to do that, it should have been done last off season, and you could set it up as a Jimmy G type contract that we could get out of after 2 years, but would pay him at the top of the food chain for those two seasons.

I'm not interested in any extensions, to any Panthers (outside of Moton) at this time.

We all know Cam Newton is great when healthy... This is what I cannot get over contract wise... Let's say hypothetically Cam Newton comes back starts 14 games (2 missed due to soreness) and we go 10-4 with Cam and 1-1 without... 11-5... new CBA playoff system is in Carolina hosts round 1 and round 2 and loses round 3 one game short of SB55 on the road...

Cam Newton is now the #1 free agent in 2021. We could franchise tag, but the next Cam deal will be 4-5 years if we are the people that sign him...

Matt Rhule will have 6 years left after 2020... Signing Cam for 5 would require Rhule betting his whole tenure in Charlotte on Cam Newton (Ron was here 9 years, Rhule I could see being gone around then)… If Cam starts getting hurt again, we have to wait 5 years to truly see if it was Rhule's or Cam's fault, no team is winning with a 35 million dollar cap hit for 0 every year. 

I think the best course of action is get our QB at #7 and let him groom under Cam in 2020... 2021 we franchise tag him and play hardball by threatening to start our rookie if he holds out... That gives us in my opinion Cam's last two potential prime years (34 year old Cam Newton will not run as well and his passing is not getting better, let's face it). Then year 3, Herbert or Tua would be ready to start... Only way we should trade Cam is if Cincinnati will listen to a trade.

Even if we released or traded him, I don’t think any team would be willing to give him a contract for anything more than next season.

I want him back, badly, as I think if healthy and with the weapons we now have, he could be great again.

But even having said that, he needs to prove he is healthy, can stay healthy, and can just throw in game settings again before any team is giving him a new contract.

So I’m not sure how much of a risk he’s taking without a long term deal since I’m not sure any team is giving him one, at least not at more then like $5 million in any season beyond this one, and he’s not taking a deal that small.

We're in a QB desperate league. I think some teams would give KA 2-3 years... His resume? 5-4 while a real NFL HC is calling plays, you don't think a former NFL MVP can get 2-3 years if he can pass a physical?

I don't think the risk is particularly great to Cam. He will make $19.1 mil and if he fails, he fails. If he holds out, the market isn't likely to be very hot for a guy that missed that much time and hasn't come back. 

I'd expect to see a market for him about like Bridgewater post-injury. Maybe a team offering a moderate deal and a couple offering one year "prove it" contracts. I don't think you would see a long term suitor after holding out a season and being injured the previous two.
