Rhule speaks at 2pm.

While no one can accurately predict the future, Rhule was clear he wants Cam here and expects him on the roster. Why not name him a starter right away? That would undercut his philosophy that everything must be earned and there will be competition at every position. And given Cam isn't expected to be in football shape for months, you can't say he will be the starter until you see how he recovers and plays. Plus if a team really wants Cam and wants to pay for him it would make no sense to totally shut the door. What if Cincy wants Cam and will take Cam and the 7th pick in exchange for the 1st pick. It would be something to ponder leading up to the draft.

But he was as clear as he could be about wanting Cam and didn't prevaricate or try and hedge his bets. People who wanted Cam to be here have to feel pretty good about this interview. I disagree with the thinking that this doesn't change anything. Given Newton's health this was as strong an endorsement as he could make without using absolutes

So again, not going back to look for where I supposedly said they didn't want him. I'll take that as an admission that you're wrong, though apparently you're not willing to "be humble" and admit it.

What I actually said was that Rhule didn't absolutely say that he would be on the roster, but that he absolutely "wants" and/or "expects" him to be on the roster. That's the kind of wording that still leaves all options open.

Alaina Getzenberg has since actually transcribed the full answer to the question.

In her analysis of the presser, she added this....

...and this.

Again, "want", "plan", "expect", "hope" and similar words express desire, but not necessarily certitude (which was what I said all along).

Everyone, you can relax now, Cam is coming back 100%

Thanks for the quote.

A: Oh yeah. ABSOLUTELY.

You: nothing absolute lol

Meanwhile in Detroit...

This is an example of an actual clear, unequivocal statement. The Panthers have said nothing even close to this.

But heck, even with Stafford, things could change. The Jaguars told people they wouldn't trade Jalen Ramsey for five first round picks, right before they traded him for a lot less.

If you've watched even one NFL offseason before, you should be able to at least recognize that what a team says today can easily be changed tomorrow, and that's even with definitive statements.

What the Panthers have said is not definitive. It's actually very flexible.

Newton staying is quite certainly possible, I'd even be comfortable with saying it's probable.

Saying it's guaranteed though?  That's overplaying your hand.

No need to kill Mr Scott!! He just tells u what he hears or sees!! We know this is the season to lie/deceive to get draft picks/trades..I think we should keep Cam seeing the options out there!! But whether the current coaching staff see's him as draft capital til then who knows!! its all speculative..so keep creating your stupid Cam threads for what if?? Mic out!

I mean I know everyone just zoned in on what Rhule had to say about Cam and if he was coming back. But damn nobody has said anything about how much he said Marty freaking Hurney's name. Wow that dude is not going anywhere, and alot of people said he was going to get fired. Guess what that ain't happening and I would put more money on him staying with Panthers than Cam. This franchise is not in good shape right now. I hope I'm wrong but looks like I will be bored the next couple years of not being able to watch my team be competitive. This really sucks and should have started a couple years ago.

How are we getting hung up on Rhule's statements? From all indications, he expects to be working with Cam. He won't name a single starter and that includes at QB until he gets the team together and they start practicing and that is good IMO. I've seen new coaches at the HS and college level say the same things with the same philosophy of earning everything in mind, and it is a good thing that he's showing that applies to everybody.

If Cam is healthy and the powers that be can work with him on either him playing out his contract or some sort of extension, we all know Rhule is going to start Cam.

Agree that nothing is guaranteed particularly with Newton coming off surgery roughly 2 months ago. But this is as definitive as anyone could expect given the uncertainty of him recovering 100% after missing major portions of the last 2 years.

The point is also if you were trying to drive up his trade value you would talk about how much you want him and how great he is.

Still I expect us to keep him if healthy and concentrate on building the offensive and defensive lines in the draft with perhaps upgrades to the secondary and a receiver or two.
