Nah.

New coach Matt Rhule said during his press conference at the Scouting Combine Tuesday that he was “unbelievably excited to work with Cam” but the reality is they’re kind of stuck. Newton’s not ready to pass a physical after offseason foot surgery, which limits his value to others along with a market flush with healthier alternatives.

Nah?  Where is the other quote?

"I'm incredibly excited to work with Cam"

"Yes I want Cam here"

"I absolutely expect him to be on the roster in September"

"Everyone is on the same page"

@Mr. Scot:  They didn't really say they wanted him back.

I....

You tell others about making assumptions when you've done nothing but make assumptions this whole offseason about what Panthers were going to do with Cam based on ambiguous quotes.

I don't have to "make assumptions" about what Rhule literally said. The only assumptions being made is by you, about what he REALLY meant OR assumptions about what he DIDN'T say.

In other words you are assuming they are lying.

Have an opinion. You're a smart guy. But quit being patronizing while also being a hypocrite

Well, speaking of assumptions, lemme ask you this: Did I actually say they didn't want him back or did I say it's not definitive he'll be back?

Keep in mind, I'm only responsible for what I actually said. Misquotes and misinterpretations of my words are not my fault.

You said they "didn't speak in absolutes" when "absolutely" is LITERALLY absolute.

And the larger point was that you are making assumptions of your own while lecturing others about "not making assumptions"

I don't have a problem with people having opinions. I do have a problem with people patronizing others because they don't interpret things the same way you do. Even going as far as to imply their inferior intelligence or inability to be unbiased to yourself.  Or your superior "gps"

Be humble.

Just as soon as you get off your high horse, dude.

I used to have a girlfriend that would argue for hours over what she thought I said, even if I didn't say it. She was crazy, of course.

I'd introduce you but I think she's taken now.

I'm married and my wife and I never argue. Probably because we are both humble.  Thanks for the offer though.

Let's play a game. I just showed you all the quotes of Rhule saying he "absolutely" wanted Cam on the roster.

Now...you show me all the quotes of them saying they DIDN'T want Cam on the roster and then we'll decide who is making assumptions.

Bet :shades:

That'd work, except remember I didn't actually say that the Panthers said they didn't want him. That was your misquote, and also...an assumption.

I challenged you to go back and find where I said it. You didn't, but now you're trying to spin away from that.

So my game would be to have you find where I said what you claim I did, or admit you were wrong.

You know...be humble.

You literally said "they didn't speak in absolutes" yes?  Let's start with that one because that is what I said you said.

So again, not going back to look for where I supposedly said they didn't want him. I'll take that as an admission that you're wrong, though apparently you're not willing to "be humble" and admit it.

What I actually said was that Rhule didn't absolutely say that he would be on the roster, but that he absolutely "wants" and/or "expects" him to be on the roster. That's the kind of wording that still leaves all options open.

Alaina Getzenberg has since actually transcribed the full answer to the question.

In her analysis of the presser, she added this....

Quote

Rhule spoke to the media at the NFL Combine for the first time since his introductory press conference. He praised Newton’s work ethic in his attempt to return to full health for the first time two years and continued to emphasize that the team does not know exactly what the future holds.

...and this.

Quote

Rhule wouldn’t commit to Newton being the Panthers’ starter in Week 1, but said that philosophy applied to every player on the team — not just quarterback; everyone has to earn their place, prioritizing keeping the feeling of competition among all of the players on the roster, regardless of how things stood last year.

Again, "want", "plan", "expect", "hope" and similar words express desire, but not necessarily certitude (which was what I said all along).
