(Rhule added off-podium that he rather likes that teams don’t know what their offense will look like, or what their “base” technically is, to clarify this.)

It's his advantage at the moment. Also, imagine a coach/OC better for Cam Newton? This coach runs his QB. Rhule figured out that running the ball wins games. Why not have Cam and CMC? Block for your QB.

"I absolutely see him being / expect him to be on the roster" isn't the same as saying "We're not trading him." It's in the same vein as "I plan to win Super Bowls with him".

He hasn't closed out any options, and in fact stated that all options are on the table.

I defended you in the other thread but you're reaching here buddy.

Disagree. The "reach" is try to make anything definitive out of what was said here. I know people want a definitive answer, but there's not one.  Nothing Rhule said precludes any trade options or anything else.

Darin Gantt basically said the same thing in two different spots.

Quote

New coach Matt Rhule said during his press conference at the Scouting Combine Tuesday that he was “unbelievably excited to work with Cam” but the reality is they’re kind of stuck. Newton’s not ready to pass a physical after offseason foot surgery, which limits his value to others along with a market flush with healthier alternatives.

So the easy thing at the moment is to make the best of the situation and say you’re looking forward to (re)building around a former MVP entering a contract year, who will have Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore and not much else around him.

Why would he close the door?  It's all pending Cam's health anyway/   I now see a 90% chance that Cam is starting Week 1 for the Panthers.

I don't know if I'd go that far.

At this point, I'm comfortable with the idea that Newton is willing to play out the last year of his deal (he may not like it, but apparently is accepting the option) but I'm not absolutely convinced the team won't trade him down the road if he can pass a physical.

Even that could be tricky, though.

The team previously said they believed he could pass a physical in March. Rapoport is now saying it'll be several months before that could happen. If that's so, then by the time he's ready, the quarterback carousel will likely already have stopped turning.

At that point, there's little use in trying to trade him.

Well considering he was talking about the D when this quote came,  I doubt CMC or Bonnafon are who he is referencing.

I will say, I Really want to hit the Trenches HARD this draft.  But that quote painted the picture of Isaiah Simmons to me.

I think Brown is the pick if hes there at 7.

It was tweeted while he was still on the podium.

Found some more info. Alaina Getzenberg put it better.

Again, not an absolute statement. It's still a "plan, see, hope" thing.

He said "absolutely", so that kinda is an absolute statement.

There's a difference between "it will absolutely happen" and "I could absolutely see it happening".

Again, the situation is fluid, but things are looking more like Newton could be here in 2020. Calling it a done deal would be premature though. Anything can still happen.

Beyond this season, the Magic 8 ball is saying "ask again later".
