Carolina sticking with Cam

We finished on an 8 game losing streak and still couldn't lockdown a top 5 pick.

Just because you want it to work a certain way by no means guarantees it actually will.

Washington was better than us last year and kicked our asses and they still managed to work their way into the 3rd overall pick.

The Dolphins who actually traded players and looked like the worst team in the league at one point could only navigate to the 5th pick.

Again. If you are hanging your hat on this stuff it doesn't sound like winning is or will be much of a priority for you. Panthers fans still haven't even witnessed back to back winning seasons yet. But keep talking about tanking I guess.

When I have talked about tanking?  Only you have.

I have talked about dealing with what hand I have been dealt, which is a roster devoid of talent, a few generational players either getting cut or walking away from the game, an entirely new coaching staff, a top 10 draft choice, and yet again, our QB not being healthy heading into mini camps and training camp (this may or may not happen, we will see).

To help you a little bit, we finished on an 8 game losing streak, then lost Irvin, McCoy, Addison, Luke, Olsen, Bradberry, Boston, etc....so yea, I think with Grier and Kyle at QB, we can have a shot at the number 1 pick next season....which makes the most sense if you truly wanted to build this thing from the ground up, which I do.

Winning in 2020 is about the lowest priority that I could possibly think of right now, however building this team correctly for a decade long bout of winning is at the very tip top of that list.

Right, so no team has ever tanked and gotten to the Super Bowl within 5 years of tanking? So why would the Panthers do it?

I just would like to see this whole idea that the team needs to be bad so they can get Lawrence or Fields or whoever stop. It does not get you to where you want to be. It's proven not to work.

What would you call what we did to put us into the position to get Cam Newton?

Because, that's exactly where I see this team again.

Some of y'all act like MVP QBs are easy to find.

"Just trade Cam and get a QB next year".

The when he doesn't develop it's another 3 years. Then another. Just hoping you eventually find an MVP QB

It only took, what 15-20 years to find one. Then y'all don't want to even give him the opportunity to prove himself after he was an iron man for most of his career cuz he gets two freak injuries.

So you can trade Cam and hope we find another Cam Newton someday or... you know... keep the Cam Newton you already have on your roster.

It's pretty easy choice.

Winning should always be the priority. Otherwise you may as well be rooting for Cleveland. Ask them how having top ten picks every year has worked out for them. Everyone wants to be the next current 49ers team, but you're just as likely to become the next Browns if you aren't careful.

What baffles me is how winning suddenly isn't a priority anymore when all we heard for the first several years of Cam's career is "just win baby". Now losing is gravy. Funny how that works out.

So how long is the team supposed to wait on him to get healthy. I don’t care about the team but am not going to be mad if they let him go.

If they wait on Cam, and he doesn’t get healthy, the tanking will take care of itself. Then he’s a 19M cap hit on IR.

Winning has always been the priority, however mine and your version are different.  I want us to be consistently competitive, not a roller coaster of a franchise that typically ends at 7-9 or so....or worse, a top 10 pick 2 of the last 3 drafts.  You good with that type of wining?  Like we have been doing it?  Because that's what it sounds like.

I'm ready to construct the franchise the way that it should be done.  Many here are perfectly fine continuing the way that we always have around here...I'm just not one of those people.

Being consistently competitive sounds great to both of us. On that we can agree. Getting there though is the question. But I just don't see how more awful football from this team is a step in that direction. Not with the resources we used to bring in Matt Rhule and an offensive mind like Joe Brady with what he brings to the table on his own. Also, good luck explaining that more losing talk to young up and coming playmakers like DJ Moore and Christian McCaffrey. Why even keep them here through that when they have value now? This losing talk opens the door for many uncomfortable conversations.

Ok. Cam is NOT healthy. Nobody’s tanking if he’s here. What’s your plan. As I asked another poster.....how are you making this team a contender and who and how are you getting a QB? Lots of great players are on teams that suck, like both were last year. CMC should be traded anyhow...right?

How uncomfortable do you think it was for Shaq or CMC or Moore to see Greg get cut, or Luke walk away?  This is grown man football, it's a business, these guys know that, and if they don't they will soon.

Part of the reason we gave Rhule a 7 year deal, was to show him that we are sticking with him for the long haul, not pulling an Arizona and firing him for a disaster of a 1st season, which I fully expect.  Those two were brought in to build the program, and the offense from the ground up....to change the lackadaisical culture that had been here for a couple decades.

This losing talk....come on man, we fired our coach during the season, we brought in college only coaches, we don't know who the QB for the team is, and we have one of the very worst rosters in the NFL...do you think the smart players can't see that for themselves?  Like they don't talk?

I think we keep Cam only if we have no choice in the matter - no significant offer/interest.

And if we keep him, I think it will be for this upcoming season to finish his contract at most. I believe Tepper and Rhule both want to put their unique stamp on things, and they prefer to, more or less, start with a clean slate - a new era.

Sadly i have to agree with you. Even if Cam is considered healthy by certain standards , it doesn't mean he will be the same excellent QB he was several years ago, or even a decent NFL starting QB. Numerous injuries and age have a way of catching up with the best of them.

It's repulsive. Embarrassing.
