Who has been wrong so far about anything? Cam isn’t starting the season opener yet and until then everybody is guessing. If/when Cam isn’t the starter at QB, there are going to be a lot of people on here eating their words on this issue.

Right now people are celebrating like anything has changed.

I get that being right is a big deal to a lot of people, and some folks get really upset when somebody has a different opinion than them, but honestly this is not the most important thing.

Winning is.

I think Marty Hurney is probably one of the worst GM's in the league, but if he pulled off a phenomenal season and we won a Super Bowl with him doing everything that I thought he shouldn't do, I'd be perfectly happy.

It's not that hard.

We know I have a different agenda. I want Cam off this team for his future. Don’t care about the team. Which is why I stay out of this.

But the claiming “victory” over coach speak, especially this time of year is ridiculous.

Newton staying for 2020 it's fine with me, though I think it's a crazy risk for him. Didn't look too likely in prior months but things have changed.

The Panthers going full rebuild and trading Newton for whatever they can get is okay too. And yeah, that's still on the table.

As I've said before the only thing I'm really opposed to is offering any kind of extension right now. Given the last few years, that'd be insane.

What I find funny though is that some people fly off the handle not at the suggestion that Newton should be traded or released but that he could be. To even acknowledge that it's in the realm of possibility makes some posters go batsh-t crazy.

Sorry folks, but it actually could happen, and no amount of anger or upset is gonna change that. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. As mentioned above, as long as we don't do something stupid I'm okay with whatever is best for the team.

So basically, tell yourself whatever makes you feel better but reality is reality.

I hesitate to walk into these shark infested waters, but here goes anyway. FWIW, here are my thoughts:

This recent set of statements are certainly the most positive as it relates to Cam being the Panthers' QB in 2020.

However, these same comments could have been made in hopes that it provides leverage to the Panthers in any trade scenario and at the same time may assuage some hurt feelings by Newton should there be no trade. My suspicion is that the Panthers want to trade him, but that due to injuries and otherwise that trade market is not developing and they realize it may not develop.

I think many people on this board are overly influenced by 2015 and the years preceding it. Cam had  reached his peak and had a passer rating just below 100, but was clearly a beast. He literally could through a force of will and talent win games nearly on his own.

However, time waits for no man and catches up to all men. Since 2015 Cam Newton has a passer rating of about 87.7, which would placed him about 19th based on last year's ranking (tied with Daniel Jones). The reality is that Cam peaked in 2015 and his body has simply started to break down. In other words, he is not his alter ego, Superman.

I think he started to lose his long ball well before the midpoint of two seasons ago. Then his ability to run also began to suffer. Each of these things brought his accuracy issues much more to the fore.

Teams finally caught on and started to shorten the field.

I tend to believe Cam will not be our QB of the future even if not traded. I think that QB of the future is not currently on the roster and will likely be drafted this year or next.

I really believe the Panthers brain trust view this season as step one in a near complete rebuild and I do not think they believe Cam Newton is a good fit for that. I tend to agree.

If Cam stays then I hope he thrives, but I have justifiable doubts in that regard.

If Cam is traded, I hope it is to a contender and he thrives except, perhaps, against the Panthers.

In short, I think the Panthers' organization thought it was time to move on from Cam Newton. Furthermore, I think the lack of overt interest led to a rethink of the messages the organization was sending. However, as I said earlier, I think they still want to trade him.

Do I have inside information? No.

Do I dislike Cam Newton? No.

Do I think it is time to move on from Cam Newton? Sadly, I say yes.

Do I hope that Cam Newton proves me to be completely wrong? Yes, because that means the Panthers are contenders and Newton has found his lost mojo.

Time will tell and answers will be forthcoming. I will continue to hope for the best.

You notice he is conveniently not answering the question.

Don’t need your help either. This isn’t about taking sides like you want it to be. Just making the point that nothing has changed. If you want to do a victory dance, do it when Cam is officially off the team.
