Dear lord, why is this even a topic? What’s funny is that as bad as Allen was, he came in week 17 and showed that he was head and shoulders above Grier. To think we passed on Maxx Crosby (he was one of our private visits) to pick Grier almost as if we didn’t have a need for DL.

And Maxx said he didn't even meet with the Raiders that means they knew they were going to draft him  based off tape alone

No that means that they adjusted their plan when he was available. Our fearless GM after picking Burns just sat there figuring out where he could get Little and Grier. That’s why he sucks. Instead of seeing what’s falling to you he stays on the same fuging bad plan. The Raiders didn’t know nearly as much as we did but they saw him available and pounced. It’s just like the Scarlett pick. There was a guy perfect for the 3-4 DE or 4-3 DE who blew up the Senior Bowl that had great OL (Gs from Oklahoma, McCoy, Dillard, Bradbury and a bunch of other drafted OL. We could have two more DL right now that we desperately need and instead we took a 3rd string QB and a 3rd string RB. Same with Little. Could have had a future pro-bowl C and a G/RT. Hurney’s incompetence the past two drafts is well documented. Could have already had some quality young Ss too but now we’ll likely spend pick 38 on a small school S.

Maybe I’m glad we are keeping Cam now because it would have been awful watching Hurney fug up my dream plan anyway. Let’s spend some FA money and get back to 7-9 baby!

You needed to read it somewhere to know this?  I watched it live on TV, the kid is bad at throwing the deep ball to put it nicely.  I just don't get the hype for Allen at all.  Maybe Brady and whoever the QB coach is can get something out of him, but for as high as a recruit he was he sure doesn't seem to have what it takes to make it in the NFL.  But what do I know.

is there still Allen hype?

I thought that faded after like 6 games.

seems like a competent backup, maybe, not likely to be more

When someone has to say "but it has some to do with the oline" that is all you need to know. Besides the fact we will have a WCO running now and hopefully a better oline. No one really expected Allen to have elite stats anyway. Except butt hurt Cam support just love to dump on a kid who hasn't even reached his potential yet.

Don't see the Kyle Allen hate. He's not Cam with his deep ball.....there aren't many of those in the history of the league in terms of pure arm strength. I've said it since Cam's MVP season when there were people still saying he was bailed out by his defense, a large swath of this fanbase is absolutely spoiled by Cam Newton. THAT level of play is now mandatory and anything less is seen as insufficient.

What happened to cause Allen's drop in play? I think it was partly a rookie QB getting schemed and not adjusting well and not finding timing on deep routes (fact) and part OL crumbling and changing every couple weeks (fact). People like overlooking Cam's constant accuracy issues deep. He threw a lot more because he has the arm, but he wasn't perfect deep. No QB is nor should they be expected to be. Allen can push the ball too. Not as accurate as Cam at it, but then Cam has more natural talent along with more experience.

Cam healthy could absolutely overcome team issues to make plays and probably win us a few of those games we lost with Allen on his own, for sure. But that sort of play is the exception because 100% healthy Cam is exceptional. Allen couldn't do it, but that doesn't mean he's bad. It means he's young and the OL that Cam has been able to play around his whole career was not good enough for Kyle. That's all.

Given more time and better, more consistent protection, and a lot of reps getting his deep timing down, Allen looks good IMO. He tried to be too precise on his deep ball and it bit him over and over again. Norv even said as much at one point. We saw a handful of deep balls that were accurate and on time and when caught, everybody just said "that was a nice catch". Well yeah, but that wasn't because the throw was bad either. Allen short to medium was pretty spot on.

Cam healthy > Allen. For sure. Really think that Joe Brady could work wonders with Allen and Grier though. They're young. If Cam doesn't work out for whatever reason, I'm confident in our QB situation regardless of who it is GIVEN that the OL is addressed and corrected.
