Umm, Short was about to be a FA and Star was a year away from FA due to his 5th year deal. We had no one behind those two. They said they want to resign Williams or probably franchise him at minimum. Hill has 2 more rookie years left and Lawrence has 4 including the 5th year. Tomlinson is in the last year of his rookie deal but still good depth right now.

It’s OK if you didn’t know the Giants roster. I didn’t fully until I looked because I was wondering who else beside Lawrence they had. I knew about Lawrence and with their desire to extend Williams, that instantly makes Brown not make sense at all without seeing Hill and Tomlinson as backups.

Hey, everyone is wrong sometimes! Honestly, Brown, Kinlaw and a QB would be the only guys that would seem to not make sense at all. Jeudy, Simmons, Okudah and an OT all make great sense. Forgot to mention Young as well. He’d make sense but I’m 99.9% sure Rivera is trying to one up Detroit talking about a QB.

LOL!

Need some Preparation H for that butthurt?

He drafted Butler in the 1st when we had massive needs elsewhere and DT was one of our strongest positions with recent 1st and 2nds spent on Star and Short.

God I remember watching that draft and being dumb founded at drafting Butler. It was such a kick in the nuts.

It was heavily rumored enough that I fully expected it. What was the kick in the nuts was watching us sign Short to a mega-deal shortly after. If you were spending that 1st rounder on Butler then IMO you had to be willing to lose Short. With our other massive needs we couldn't afford to pour both a 1st round pick and a cap hampering mega-contract into the DT position.

The funny thing is watching Butler grade out similar to guys we overpaid in FA this past season, and trying to comprehend if we just used how much of all that is:

1. Poor roster management

2. Overpaying FA

How am I butthurt? If they extend Williams like they’ve said the want to (traded an early 3rd and a 2021 5th for a guy in the final year of his contract), then they’ve got two DTs locked up for 4 or so years, a backup DT for 2 more years and another backup in his last year of a rookie deal. They’ve literally got 4 DTs already.

I’ll eat crow but unless their Williams deal falls through, which seems crazy considering the trade, taking Brown is completely dumb and not close to Butler. Pick 30 or 31 in a trash draft is also way likely more BPA than throwing pick 4 at a DT who might play or if he does puts last years 1st rounder or a high priced FA on the bench. Sorry, not remotely similar and again you’re wrong.

You're arguing that someone is definitively wrong about an event that hasn't yet played out. It's an idiotic premise.

I'd bet money that Gettleman will draft the highest hog mollie on his board and I honestly expect that to be Brown.

It’s a message board, that’s what we do. I expect it to not be Brown. Looking at their roster, I’d expect Okudah (Gettleman ain’t afraid to draft DBs either), Jeudy (he’s drafted WRs early too) or a tackle (almost thinking Wirfs as a RT). Forgot Simmons as well.

Their two starting DTs are solid and they have depth. I just can’t imagine taking Brown. Any of those four above is way better for the team. We can say hog mollies all we want but Gettleman’s drafted LB, WRs and CBs early and often.

I wanted Derek Henry

Wonder what the offense would have been like. We don’t nearly have the run blocking that the Titans appear to have and not having a receiving RB would be an interesting change. Couple that with the fact that our defense has completely sucked. Titans were 12th in scoring D. A great running game works with that. We were 31st in scoring D. A running game just helps us shut the TV off a little earlier!

Thats what years of bad to mediocre drafting will do

    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
