Starting Grier just makes our picks better in 2021. Allen doesn’t appear to be in our plans. I definitely think we are in full rebuild mode. Only players that are going to be in their primes in the next 5 years should stick.

Starting Grier would be a disaster. He's not better than Allen and never will be. He was a terrible pick by a terrible staff.

We stink right now, part of the reason why I don’t mind if we trade Cam. We should 100% be thinking BPA. Our run D in 2020 isn’t going to kill us. To use your example. If there’s a WR at 69 that we’d grade in the 1st in 2021 versus a DT who is the next best but still grades a top of the 3rd DT, I’m taking that WR all day. Do we know for sure that Samuel will stay with us after 2020? I’d much rather take a player with a better chance to be a stud than a bigger need this year.

To use another example. If there’s a WR who we’d grade as better than Moore that’s around at 38, I’m taking him as well. Assuming he’s BPA is all I need. I’m also talking about real first round grades, not Marty thinking they are a 1st rounder.

WRs are a dime a dozen nowadays due to the spread offenses in college.  If we aren't looking for a WR1 (and we are not) then taking one in a deep class in the mid-rounds makes more sense to me because we do have so many holes.  We are essentially rebuilding everywhere.  The one position that is actually young and talented on this team is WR.  Samuel is not a s bad as people say he is.  They want WR1 numbers out  of him.  On this team, he's technically a WR3 because of CMC and DJ.  So yeah, his numbers are about where they are supposed to be.

Take the Falcons for example, they are loaded at WR but couldn't run the ball effectively and their defense sucked for most of the year.  Having a WR room full of studs didn't really help them out much.  Again, give me a player...plenty of holes to choose from, at a position that will be on the field most snaps.  A rookie WR will most likely get around 30 catches this season.   The first 3 rounds are like gold, and it's too valuable what amounts to a part-time player.

If you're going full tank, why sign Joe Brady so he can put his high trajectory career, to this point, on hold.

Signing Joe Brady is the evidence, to me, that calls bullshit on a full tank.

To get him in the fold. For all we know, Tepper may already have the feeling that this nearly entirely college coaching staff might need a year or two to adjust to the NFL anyway. And it's not like Brady is doing this as a charity effort. He's probably one of the highest paid coordinators in the NFL.

If you're going full tank, Grier is your best bet.

This team won't need anything more than we had last year to tank. Grier didn't even belong on the field. We can lose with Allen or a FA pick up. He needs to go to the PS where he probably will stay.

Drafting the strength of the draft gets you a better team overall. We aren’t flush with WRs. I’m not saying to grab one early just to grab one but I’ll use Little as an example. We could have had McCoy and Evans (or another G) instead of Little. Interior OL was a strength, not tackle last year. So instead of drafting the 2nd best C (actually ended up being the best and probably will be a multiple year pro-bowler), we took the 6th best OT who was a project. Based on how little we got out of him, we could have waited until this strong T class and gotten a way better one at 38.

I don’t want a 3rd or 4th round graded player over a late first round graded WR because that’s what we’ll get. Much better chance that we get a solid player if we draft the deep positions because they should be a value as long as the new coaches are assisting Marty as his last two drafts have been mediocre outside of Moore and I think Burns. We can’t keep wasting good picks. 47 and 77 last year could have easily been starters. 38 and 69 have to be solid starters.

People will likely blame trading or keeping Cam as why a rebuild does or doesn’t work but honestly, the most important person is Hurney and that’s scary as fug.

I have a funny feeling they move back up in the first to snag a guy that may be dropping.  2 mocks this morning have us trading for NE first and getting Love.

FWIW

When Ryan Kalil guaranteed a Super Bowl victory - it didn't mean we were guaranteed to win the Super Bowl that year ..

Likewise, IMO, when David Tepper said, success won't happen overnight - it doesn't mean that it won't

Tepper is publicly putting no pressure on this team to perform right away .. and he shouldn't .. but it doesn't mean we won't perform right away.

The opposite of "..success won't happen overnight.." - is  "..we plan on being a contender right away.." - that puts unnecessary pressure on everybody.

I think Tepper may be sand-bagging a little bit.

I'm terrified of the thought of Hurney trading next year's 1st. It wouldn't be the first time. Or the second.

Absolutely no way Love drops that far short of a horrifically bad Combine and/or Pro day.  I've seen Big Boards already having Love leap frogging Herbert.
