Preferred Direction at QB?

What do you think is the right direction to take at QB?

  1. 1. Everyone seems sure about what they don't want to happen, so let's run a poll. What makes the most sense in rebuilding year 1?

    • Tua Tagovailoa
    • Justin Herbert
    • Cam Newton Returns!
    • No Cam, No Top QB, No FA, Allen-Grier 2020
    • 2nd-ish Round Special (Fromm/Eason/Hurts/Gordon)
    • FA Special (Bridgewater/Mariota/Keenum/Rivers)

Cam or Tank seems to be the current trend. I am a little surprised by how many people seem to be embracing the tanking.

Do we have a choice?  You might as well embrace it because it's coming either this off-season or the next.

I'm not. I'd MUCH rather stick with Cam. But, if Tepper is hell-bent on getting rid of Cam then I'd MUCH rather just flat out tank than sign some mediocre vet that might be able to win us 5-7 games and have us once again sitting right outside of being able to target one of the top QBs in the draft.

Keenum and Rivers are not likely to be cheap and I suspect Rivers will be looking for either a spot close to his new home(FL) or on a team that is capable of contending.

I don't think you're wrong, I was just spit balling a bit. Keenum might actually be the most realistic choice of all the FA QBs because he's not realistically chasing a Super Bowl like Rivers, and he probably falls a bit short of Teddy when you're a team looking for a potential longer term solution at QB.

I don't think it's absolutely clear on who "wants to tank" and who just things we're going to be bad regardless.

I don't personally buy into tanking, but I do think we're going to be bad and we need to get value back where we can to jump start the rebuild. In my experience, if you're a team without much talent, injuries are generally going to do you in without having to sell the farm. You need foundation pieces to build around, and when you get them, you don't dump them chasing the next big thing, or worrying about winning too much.

I think the biggest factor in how bad we will be is the Cam decision, assuming no other good options are signed at QB, which does seem unlikely. That said, our overall movement in free agency will probably tell the story pretty quickly about the direction, as we have some key free agents. I think that what we do with those guys will give the biggest indication on what is going to happen. I'd like to say I am eager to see but I am moreso dreading it, at this point.

@pantherclaw so Herbert aye? Fan or is it what you think will happen? I think this is an entirely possible scenario and it would drive people nuts. I love it.

A bit of both to be honest.

I've watched him than just this last season.

I believe there is a lot to like about the guy. Smart, strong work ethic, natural leader, strong arm, accurate, mobile.

I think those whom are against him simply haven't seen enough of him to actually have an opinion worth talking about.

Of the top QBs, he's also the most likely to be there.

Won't break my heart either way.

We'll see.

If we could get Keenum on a shorter term deal, I'd be fine with that. Otherwise, I'd gamble(for the right price) on a short term deal for Mariota or Winston. I'd take a Tannehill type gamble.

Speaking of Teddy Bridgewater (as everyone writes off Cam because of a foot injury that he played 2 games on but DECIDED to sit because he wasn't 100%), didn't he literally blow his knee up 3 years ago?

Like they were initially considering freakin amputation!

Amputation!?

And the physical phenom that is Cam can't come back from a couple of standard procedures on his shoulder and foot?

Ya'll mofos really trippin.

I’d prefer Tua over any non Cam option.  If you hit on a young QB you can turn it around relatively quick (2-3 years) and I think he’s right up there with a Trevor or a Fields In terms of talent. Don’t really agree with the you have to burn for a few years to get better crowd, but we’ll see.  If Hurney is around we probably aren’t making smart enough moves to not burn for a few years anyways.

I don't have a preference on the direction they take at QB.  But if it has been decided that Cam is not going to be a  part of the long term plans then I would hope that they would just go ahead and do it now.  Just release him to choose his own path forward and throw him the best party Charlotte has ever seen to celebrate his time here.  That's how I would like to see it end if that is what the plan is.

Oh lord, the amputation talk was over blown. It had nothing to do with the severity of the injury or it's ability to heal. It was headline grabbing nonsesnse.

If you sign Teddy you due have to acknowledge he had knee surgery a few years ago, but everything has checked out since, and it obviously hasn't affected his play since he's been back. He put up good numbers with the Saints in his 5-0 stint, but was also wasn't spectacular, just effecient.

The reason people are more concerned about Cam's health is due to the amount of injuries he's sustained and how much time he's missed in the past 2 seasons.

Cowherd made a good argument about QBs in round 1. They don’t have a high bust rate compared to 5 years ago because these players are spending hours upon hours in 7 on 7 camps from high school to college compared to the old days where Players literally played about 20 games before going to the NFL basically citing Gladwells 10000 hour rule.

Added with the change of nfl incorporating college aspects and instead of treating the player like a round peg in a square hole they look for what works for them. Watson, Wentz, Allen, And Mahomes all benefit from this different generation. I’ll post the video when I get a computer.
