CMC Trade Talk (Might as well get it out there)

Honestly, if the team is serious about rebuilding, I’d unload him for a couple 2nds from teams with high picks.

Sucks it’s come to this, but extending CMC doesn’t seem smart at all; especially since he will be the highest paid RB.

Yeah, it's just hard to see the justification for giving him a big extension. If you are rebuilding, why commit that kind of money to a position that is essentially devalued in the modern NFL?

If anything, play the franchise tag game for a little while and see if the rebuild is even going anywhere. At least you are only married to a big contract on a year-to-year basis.

That's what seems so insane to me. How does it make sense in the modern NFL to jettison a franchise QB and make a RB the highest paid player at his position?

This will be a situation where, all of a sudden, marketing and such matters more than winning and rebuilding the right way.

Now, I could get with this. Only thing that scares me is letting him play out this year, we suck, and get nothing for him. IMO, now is the time to make a move

CMC is an extraordinary talent, a human Swiss Army Knife.

However, on a team in rebuild mode, he may be viewed more as a luxury beyond this season.

Some high draft picks from a team that sees CMC as their missing piece might be a wise move.

A solid offensive line can make ordinary RBs look pretty good.  See SF 49ers.

yes exactly. i dont think we need to rebuild because we have the skill position talent, a seemingly good offensive mind at OC, and a quarterback worth rolling the dice on. but if we ARE going to rebuild, fug marketing and short term profits. the stadium isnt going to be filling up on sundays for a shitty team whether it's mccaffrey or whoever else carrying the ball. acquire picks and let's do this rebuild right.

If they are valuing marketing, paying a player that stars for a losing franchise is not the way to do it. Charlotte fans are already fickle enough, I don't think impressive stat lines in front of empty seats are going to impact much. Not to mention, we all know that ticket sales and merchandise sales are a drop in the bucket for a small market team compared to the TV contract values.

That's likely to happen if we don't sign him to a big contract anyway. We'll get a nice compensatory pick for him, most likely. I am not sure that what we got from that would be much less than what we get in a trade. I just don't think people are really thinking how devalued that position is overall. When was the last big RB that got traded, for that matter? And what did it net?

im not personally going to credit him for those 5 wins, though he did play his part for sure. but yeah, "the process" is something to consider. it's not the primary reason i believe we should trade mccaffrey, but it's relevant for sure. i think you trade him because you have no plans on winning a super bowl with him for the next, what, 5 years?  at best? trade for picks so that we have more young, skilled players reaching their prime as our window opens. maximize the value this offseason while he doesnt have that future contract hanging over his head quite so much.

I will submit, I get giddy with dominant defensive lines and what the 49ers were able to do at the top of drafts with acquiring Buckner, Armstead, Thomas, & Bosa is mouth watering.  Targeted a strong vet add in Ford and had good mid-rounders elsewhere on D like DJ Jones and Fred Warner.  A Tartt is one of my favorite safeties in the league.  Not sure about their offense but they found ways to keep it cranking with Kittle.  In looking at many of the top teams, I'm convinced a committee RB group and elite TE is the makeup you need this day and age.

F*ck, we need Hurney gone if we want to do this right.

he's going to pay mccaffrey a whole lot more than the other two. if mccaffrey gets the contract im sure he and his agent feel he deserves, say goodbye to all of that value you enjoyed while he was on a cheap rookie deal. paying him takes away resources from the rest of the team. hell having him on a cheap contract didn't guarantee very many wins, did it? might want to save that money for someone who impacts the game more. running backs aren't worth what they used to be worth. why give one elite money when we plan to lose anyway?

Could make the same argument for QBs. Despite how much they are demanding, recent history has proven you don’t need a Tom Brady or Brees to win a SB.

I agree. I also don’t think we’re going to have Brady very long, so let’s see if he’s worth his weight and can do something with the pieces we already have. I’m of the opinion, that with an OL pick, our current offense can be just fine. I don’t think a total rebuild is necessary, but if we’re going to get rid of our QB, then let’s do this thing right finally.

Lord forbid, we keep CMC and win 5 games, and that takes us out of position for Fields or Lawrence

That is what is scary about all of this.

This franchise has been obsessed with linebackers and running backs. My fear is we lose Cam, sign cmc to a 100 mill contract and draft someone like Simmons in the first round. We are just going in a fuging circle.

Why are you so obsessed with Cam. I thought you had an issue with “Cam only” fans? Gosh, you’re first post in here was about him too.

No obsession. It’s a response to those that are actually obsessed with Cam enough to make such a moronic suggestion that we should trade away our best player of this decade just because Cam might be gone.

Except none of that has happened.  lol
