say this is true. say that mccaffrey single handedly prevents this team from reaching the top of the draft. is the plan to then to just get lucky on a quarterback after the top prospects have been picked through over the next 5 years? wouldn't you like your pick of the bunch at the top? it's no sure thing but it beats not getting your guy. in the nba teams miss out on elite talent because they overpay good players who arent good enough to win playoff games but arent bad enough to lose a lot of games. that sounds like mediocrity to me. sounds like our future, actually.

However, just to add a little fuel to the fire, one of the most famous RB trades in NFL history helped propel a team to 3 Super Bowl victories.

he's going to pay mccaffrey a whole lot more than the other two. if mccaffrey gets the contract im sure he and his agent feel he deserves, say goodbye to all of that value you enjoyed while he was on a cheap rookie deal. paying him takes away resources from the rest of the team. hell having him on a cheap contract didn't guarantee very many wins, did it? might want to save that money for someone who impacts the game more. running backs aren't worth what they used to be worth. why give one elite money when we plan to lose anyway?

Huh? I'm just saying he was a huge factor in winning those games. 

Are you saying get rid of him to ensure a 76ers scenario?

the panthers have cover to move on from cam because a not insignificant portion of the fan base has been geared up for it for years. tougher sell for a guy like mccaffrey, even when he is far less valuable. i expect the team to half ass this rebuild and spend the next decade trying to figure out why they can't find a quarterback. mccaffrey isn't getting traded (wouldn't be surprised if he played out his contract and went to denver though).

dangle his relationship with Denver over both of their heads and get them to pay out the nose for him. CMC is a hardcore Broncos fan, and they'd love to have him due to his father's legacy there. they are the team we're most likely to get a 1st out of.

rebuilding means rebuilding, you can't let emotional attachments to players bog down the team.

Oh without a doubt regarding the bold.  Once it got to around week 13ish and we were out, it was Lamar, Mahomes, or Wilson.  But I'm saying his impact is pretty darn substantial and his numbers aren;t simply due to high volume.  There's a special player there who's a receiver and running back.  I'll be honest and take the easy route out by saying I really don't have an opinion one way or another on who makes it through this offseason.  There's just so many unknowns.

im not personally going to credit him for those 5 wins, though he did play his part for sure. but yeah, "the process" is something to consider. it's not the primary reason i believe we should trade mccaffrey, but it's relevant for sure. i think you trade him because you have no plans on winning a super bowl with him for the next, what, 5 years?  at best? trade for picks so that we have more young, skilled players reaching their prime as our window opens. maximize the value this offseason while he doesnt have that future contract hanging over his head quite so much.
