CMC Trade Talk (Might as well get it out there)

We kind of derailed the thread. Those comments were actually about Pat Mahomes. WarHeel doesn't believe Mahomes is an elite QB, views him as a product of the talent around him and is basically media hype. The rest of us were trying to debate that.

CMC is an elite back for sure. Elite RB's tend to stick out more easily in the modern game because it's a devalued position.

Yeah that argument is silly.  Mahomes is an elite QB.

He is legitimately the first person I have ever heard to say anything other than he was an elite QB. I can't quite wrap my head around that view point. My only guess is that he really hasn't seen him play and is just doubting based on the sports media hype train. It's the only logical explanation I can come up with.

I guarantee you that if you asked every GM and coach in the league about starting a team, Mahomes would be the first person they would take.  Over Brees, over Brady, over Rogers......

He would be the consensus number one guy in the league to take for a new team.

I wouldn't say he's better than Aaron Rodgers right now, but he's a lot younger and already amazing.

In all likelihood, by the time he has as many years as Rodgers currently does, he probably will be greater.

The only thing I could see derailing Mahomes from being historically good is injuries.

I would absolutely  say he is better than Aaron Rodgers now.

There's an argument to be made.

Me? I think Rodgers is better now, but barring injury Mahomes will be better, and it might not take that long.

I definitely don't doubt that Mahomes will become the default answer to the annual "best quarterback in the league" question soon and will probably hold that title for a while.

Since Rodgers was injured in 2017, he has definitely been in decline statistically. His numbers have been down almost across the board. I think you are seeing "the back side" of Aaron Rodgers career start to creep up on him.

I would say Mahomes is a better QB right now. Aaron SHOULD be the better QB at the moment but Mahomes is having about as amazing a start to a career as possible for a QB.

Yep. His talent, proven ability on the field, and age all combine to make him the runaway #1 IMO. It wouldn't take a GM more than 10 seconds to make that pick.

All you have to do is watch the kids play.  If that's not elite then I would like to know what is.

The two year sample size was enough for me. I did have the thought that perhaps he would have a little slump after his first year starting but that didn't happen. I think the only thing that could knock him off that elite pedestal at this point would be a serious injury that wrecks his career.

Hope that doesn’t happen. I get that he came back from injury and played extremely well but I look across the league and particularly in Cam’s situation with a lack of offensive weapons and protection and ask who are some guys who could make that work. Seeing him overcome those types of situations would do it for me.
