Brees is coming back.

Brees played for $22.7M last year and $24M the year before.

The same was also said for Bridgewater when entering free agency last year, then he turned down starting QB money from the Dolphins and re-signed here for $7.25M.

Now it wouldn’t surprise me if Bridgewater does get an offer for ~$20M+ APY and I wouldn’t blame him for leaving. However, it has to be the right situation to get him to leave and he knows that. He knows he has a good situation here.

I think it’s a VERY good possibility he does leave and it is Brees/Hill as you said, however in that situation I’d bet my last dollar that we’ll also sign another veteran QB to be #2 where Hill can continue being deployed how he has been for the last two seasons.

22.7 last year on the cap, yes.  But due to the restructuring that's kind of a fake number, no?  By saying "he played at this"...well to do the same this year, is he really coming back on a 7 million dollar contract for this season?  That's the only way you're getting close to that 22.7 number in actuality again this season.  And doesn't account for 2021 money on the books already.

So you pay him 25 for one year, and you're at 41 million if they eat it all this year.  But, don't have that space if you're competing, and can't imagine the Saints KEEP kicking the can down the road (he's on the cap while being unsigned in 2020 and 2021 already).  I mean, are they really going to get one more year of Brees, but have him on the cap until 2023?  Shades of Bobby Bonilla

Add “defense” in that sentence and I won’t can’t argue against it.

:crying:

I’d rather not watch Taysom run through our whole defense next year. LOLOL.

:fear:

Yeah but he has 9 receiving/rushing TD’s! 11 when you add in the two playoff TD’s. And he plays like 17 different positions.

Come on, guys. Give us that 7th overall pick, y’all don’t need it. We know what to do with it.

He’s a fine QB, but I think the question marks y’all have at various spots on y’all roster might have him doubting his success if he’d sign with y’all.

Guess you won't have to worry with Cam coming back. He's going to be the one ripping it apart.

Well if we’re going by that then the cap charge for every player in the league that is on a contract with a signing bonus is essentially a “fake number” considering the signing bonuses are already paid out.

But I don’t doubt for one minute Loomis won’t kick that can again (albeit is getting bigger and bigger). It’s been designed from the start that we were going to eat that charge when Brees finally does hang it up; there is no avoiding it, but as long as he’s lacing them up then y’all will have to keep waiting for us to eat it.

Unless 2015 Cam is showing up, meh.

Maybe we’ll let Taysom try his hand at LB and he and Cam can go head up.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
