Rappaport on the pending trade market for Cam

If we’re not a healthy Cam away from the Super Bowl means we should get rid of the only good QB we’ve ever had at the QB-young age of 30, then we might as well get rid of McCaffrey and every other player that we can get a pick for. McCaffrey is just as old as Cam in RB-years.  Gonna be way more expensive than Cam in RB-dollars.  If we’re “starting over from scratch”, McCaffreys not gonna last long enough to actually help us win a SB anyway.  Is McCaffrey going to still be an elite RB in 5 years?  Maybe, but if we’re tossing babies out with the bath water we might as get what we can while his stock is at its highest.

The thing to consider is that CMC is still a year younger than CAP was when he was drafted.  At 23, he's got at the least 4-5 years of rum shaking at an MVP level.  Rebuilds can happen in 2 so it would be a situation to evaluate depending on where we are after this next season.

Name one successful team in the NFL other than the Titans whose "MVP" is a running back.

“Big trade market” if healthy when tons of starter quality QBs are hitting FA at the same time. All the sudden that logic means Cam is better and healthy, then why let him go? If he gets traded you have people saying they have their QB for the next decade. Is that not long term enough for us? Love to see the Bucs included as a destination team- as if we’d willingly trade him to a division rival.

Also, it “appears” we’re in for a longer rebuild than expected. Why? Because we lost Luke and Greg? Luke had max 5 more years if he was healthy, likelier it would have been 2-3. Greg has been at the end of the road the past two years. Meanwhile QBs are playing into their 40s.

Love a puff piece.

Let’s say we get rid of Cam and get a mid first round pick for him (lol).

and we start building this team from scratch. How long do people think it will take to build a team with no qb, one talented olineman, one budding star wr, one talented 3-4 edge rusher and one talented linebacker? We severely lack talent at multiple key positions.

I don’t think you people understand that we are going to have to hit on picks MASSIVELY for us to turn this around in 2 or 3 years. This is more than likely a 5 year rebuild. And at that point you trade cmc right now to make that a faster transition.

this on top of a college coach with college coordinators. And Marty Hurney as the GM right now. Sorry folks but this has a very strong chance of being a complete and total dumpster fire for a decade.

True, these playoffs were full of teams with committees.  I'm just saying give it a year to evaluate.  I personally don't know about giving him some huge deal but if we do, create a contract with an out in 2-3 years.

You trade cmc now for picks to speed up the rebuild. That’s my whole point. Why drop 100+ mill on a 5 year deal when it’s gonna take 4 or 5 years until we compete again. And this is ONLY if we hit on draft picks which again, with Marty in charge isn’t very promising.

even just trading Cam ain’t gonna do much for speeding up the rebuild. Might as well go all in.

Ah, gotcha, that makes sense.  I dont believe the 5 year timeline.  Assuming the coaches are as good as advertised and with a couple of good drafts we can be competitive but yeah right now we have gaping holes in every position unit.  Which ultimately I think Tepper recognizes and will fault Hurney for it and tells him to hit the bricks.  I am pretty confident he is not in any long term plans for this team.

Okay so say we give it a year. By this time next year we are facing a record contract for CMC which could balloon even more depending on the designation considering how much we use him as a receiver. So do we pay him if we still aren't any closer to acquiring our quarterback of the future?

no reason to trade cam and keep mccaffrey. looking forward to seeing what we get for the two. thinking a 2nd rounder for each? im sure we will be competitive again in no time with that haul

Agreed. It just sucks though, we shouldn’t trade him but it’s looking more and more like we will, So we can pay 100m to a rb and call it “rebuilding”.
