I haven’t turned any anger towards cmc. I said earlier he’s great, but if we are rebuilding, why keep him? Why not explore trade options while he has been elite and get the most bang for you buck? If they don’t they will re sign him to a mega deal and then we will be rebuilding around a rb, which doesn’t seem all that great. To ill will towards him at all, and I don’t see how that’s mental.

You do not have to decide on either of those NOW!  Next year sure, but you will not benefit from that this year unless you are trying to get your next franchise qb in this upcoming draft?  If that's the case then by all means pull the trigger.

It is a gamble sure but given that he's held up so far I think betting on him the make it through next season is a safe bet.

Now next season I would listen to trade offers because I personally think that's the draft you want expendable picks in but that's just me.

Also the thought of Hurney being involved with the trade makes me nervous. I would much rather wait until he's gone before any trades like this are discussed.

Like I said. You can deal him for next years first. I don’t really see the gamble with trading him instead of resigning him to a 100+ mill contract in a rebuild. Get the picks, we’re gonna suck ass anyway. The gamble is letting a running back who is on the field 99% of the time and hoping he doesn’t get injured. That’s a major gamble.

You said you don’t think we’ll suck? I don’t think some of you get how bad this team is gonna be next year. We have college coaches in their first years ever in the NFL, coaching a team that just lost their generational qb and mlb and te and all the leadership that comes with that. No defense, no qb. It has the capacity to be some of the worst panthers football we’ve ever seen.

Fair enough, but do you believe the next franchise qb is in this draft or next?

1. I don't believe we will suck, we may not win but we won't suck.

then why are we rebuilding? if we're not going to be shitty then why not see what the mvp quarterback can do with this roster? i feel like no one's actually serious about a rebuild and hey, im not either. i think it's worth the gamble to see if cam comes back healthy because he absolutely could lead this team to the playoffs. BUT if we're getting rid of him in the name of a rebuild then the absolute worst thing we could do is half ass it. that's how we become the browns.

2. Marty Hurney.

understandable but to be fair the true marty hurney move would be to give mccaffrey his insane extension this offseason lol

You may be right that it will be the worst football I have ever seen in my 57 years of watching football.  But I doubt it.  Whatever happens happens.  I have zero control over what happens. Hell I've already forgot what we are discussing...

I don't have a clue.  I've watched a lot of football in my life and the one thing I've learned that seems universal is that it takes more than talent and physical ability to make a franchise QB.  It really boils down to coaching and the team they end up on.  Even when it looks like a perfect situation it's 50/50 whether they amount to anything.

Because Tepper appears to be moving on from Cam regardless if he's healthy or not.  Tepper has not extended him and judging by his non-committal doesn't appear he ever will.  So what's the point in dragging it out?

CMC isn’t going anywhere, he is the face of the team and mvp in the year Cam was gone.   We are only parting with players because they are past their prime not just for the hell of it!

What on earth is up with how loosely the MVP designation is being thrown around here?

There are no MVP's on a 5 win team that finished on an 8 game losing streak and won only a single divisional matchup all year. That's called a franchise without a viable starting quarterback.

Because (my opinion,  based on that word Tepper and RR discussed) the enemy is not losing--it is mediocrity.  Cam prolongs the inevitable.  When he is on the field, our future franchise QB is not getting reps.  A losing season is a blip. Mediocrity plagues teams for years.

Cam was playing well enough, albeit, not great, to win down the stretch of 2018 - the team around him was letting him down .. like vs. Seattle in 2018 where CMC was stopped 3 straight times in the Red Zone .. or like vs. Detroit in 2018 when Devin Funchess literally cost us the game .. far before Cam's 2 pt. conversion miss ever mattered.

I’m starting to think they end up just cutting Cam and not get anything for him. Other teams will low ball on trades, they’ll wait to last minute to get a better pick, but it’ll backfire.

probably. so if the choice is to cut him for nothing or play him, why cut him? unless cam is refusing to play but even then, owners don’t like it when players dictate their situation. it’s not like the heir apparent is on the roster. we got our first look at the post-cam panthers and it really, really sucked lol. keeping him is a no risk move.
