Rappaport on the pending trade market for Cam

trading mccaffrey guarantees a positive return. you will receive draft capital. those picks may not work out but the picks themselves are assets. even if mccaffrey justifies the contract through a rebuild, what have you actually gained? if he puts up 2000+ yards from scrimmage every year for the next 5 years on a 5-11 team, what's the point? trading for picks means we get to move our assets closer to the end of the "rebuild" which seems like smart strategy to me. tbh "rebuild" has just become an excuse to shout down calls for the mvp quarterback to remain the starter. most people here have no idea what it means. it doesn't mean burning up your actual assets through the rebuild lol but that's exactly what you're doing if you hang on to mccaffrey. either we're investing in the future or we're not. can't have it both ways.

So let's trade Moore too. Why not?

Get rid of Shaq for picks.

Trade everyone you can that's a starting quality player and let's see how well that works out for us.

oh yeah just all of a sudden people decided it's stupid to give running backs massive contracts, especially in the middle of a rebuild lol

Never said anything about giving him an extension.  You don't have to do anything with him at all this season.  Next seaon? Sure, let's see what kind of hall we can get.

No, it's just that why now?   I mean if you want picks for a particular draft one would think that you would want them in the 2021 draft, right?  Unless you are trading him for future draft picks then that's another debate all together.  But for now you don't have to do anything with CMC but feed him the ball.  Next year, yeah, we can talk about trading him for a Kings Ransom.

Anyway, I was mostly poking fun at the handful that's gone mental at the thought of the team moving on without Cam.  They've turned their anger towards CMC.

Because what happens if he gets injured? His value plummets. His value also plummets another year with him pounding the rock and playing 99% of snaps like he did this past year. And like you said this could be for future picks. It’s hypothetical but this years 2nd and next years first. Or something like that.

and no I don’t think the panthers are gonna trade cmc. But they would be smart if they did.  So far they’ve shown to not be smart.

if the right deal comes along, why not? that said moore's next contract isn't up as soon as mccaffrey's and he plays a position with more value. also, i forget, do wide receivers have shorter careers than running backs?

i would rather keep a dj moore who becomes a top 15-ish wide receiver over setting the market with mccaffrey.

no one is trading anything for shaq right now lol. mccaffrey would be extremely enticing to the right team because he has one more season locked in on his rookie deal before the inevitable holdout. he makes a lot of sense for a team ready to make a run at a super bowl. sorry but that's not us. not if we're "rebuilding"

i thought this team sucked poo and needed a 5 year rebuild. at least that's what i was told, anyway. who gives a poo? many of these guys wont be in the league in 5 years. absolutely accumulate draft picks wherever possible over the next few years if we're really doing this "5 year rebuild" or w/e

you'll get way more this offseason. if you believe this team is going to suck in 2020 then why wait until the following offseason?

It is a gamble sure but given that he's held up so far I think betting on him the make it through next season is a safe bet.

Now next season I would listen to trade offers because I personally think that's the draft you want expendable picks in but that's just me.

Also the thought of Hurney being involved with the trade makes me nervous. I would much rather wait until he's gone before any trades like this are discussed.

I haven’t turned any anger towards cmc. I said earlier he’s great, but if we are rebuilding, why keep him? Why not explore trade options while he has been elite and get the most bang for you buck? If they don’t they will re sign him to a mega deal and then we will be rebuilding around a rb, which doesn’t seem all that great. To ill will towards him at all, and I don’t see how that’s mental.

2 reasons.

1. I don't believe we will suck, we may not win but we won't suck.

2. Marty Hurney.
