Matt Ryan, if you take the total number of passes that were TDs or INTs, has a TD percentage of 69%.  Matt Ryan is an average to above average QB. Tom Brady, using the same measure, is at 75%.  Joe Flacco, an average QB at best, is at 61%

Cam Newton is under 63%

So if you are throwing his TD to INT ratio, not the best measure for Cam.  It suggests that Cam has been average.

Are you guys actually going to make me stick up for braided belts wearing Matt Ryan?

Last I checked both Ryan and Newton have been named MVP of the entire league.

I also distinctly recall a two win Falcons team stepping on the Panthers necks in Carolina and Atlanta in 2019 without our franchise quarterback.

How average did Matt Ryan look embarrassing our secondary while Kyle Allen lobbed interceptions to defensive linemen?

Whatever happens, we need a real QB in Carolina.

Andrew Luck has a 60% career comp pct, but he is a good quarterback, am I right?

60.8%--61% if you are rounding.

Like Cam, he did not get that great OL until the end of his career.  Luck absorbed about 1/3 of the hits Cam took.

We need to look forward and not backwards for the answers.  What do you think the future holds for a QB who has been hit some 1300 times---nearly twice as often as any other QB?  These injuries are real and there is no full recovery after most surgeries.  There is scar tissue and the brain (subconsciously) tries to protect it from re-injury.  If I have $100m in the bank, it sure would be hard for me to risk my health for another $100m.  I would go Andrew Luck and tip my hat and thank the team for providing for my family for the rest of my healthy life.

And Cam is 60 percent if you’re rounding. Why is Luck considered a good passer? Why is his accuracy never questioned?

Below average qbs win mvp’s too huh....

Cam had a great year---I would love to have the 26-year old, healthy Cam Newton back.  His playing style--lowering his shoulder, leaping over the defense, diving for the extra yard, and holding onto the ball as long as he could before getting hammered--that was the Cam that won the MVP.  Throw in a "perfect storm" of a season that had a ball hawking defense (+20 turnover ratio), one that scored 5 TDs, and Cam plays with the lead.  That is so important.  Cam is not a great "come from behind" QB.   He was amazing at 26, and now he is paying for it.  I do not know how his career will turn out, but I know that his body has taken a brutal beating.  This ain't Madden---we cannot hit "reset".

great athlete, average QB. Take the run threat away and he is below average.

I'm not going to mince words here, this is a very ignorant and tired trope used to diminish black QB's that the league has been trying to shed for years.

I am disappointed but not surprised to see MHS agreeing with this from someone like ickmule.
