Thomas Davis: “If I’m Cam Newton, I’m doing what’s best for me and my career” “The time is best for him to find another team”

If Cam leaves then we won’t make the playoffs in the Rhule era. It’s going to be a long ride before we have to start over again.

Yeah, thank goodness Cam was on that 2001 rebuild too. If we do move on from Cam then the QB we draft and honestly the drafting ability of our immortal Hurney are what makes or breaks us. The reason why Cleveland floundered wasn’t because ether were rebuilding it was because they made awful picks. In 2012 they got Trent Richardson at 3. In 2013 they got Mingo at 6. In 2014, Justin Gilbert at 8. Khalil Mack and Mike Evans went 5 and 7. Anthony Barr, Taylor Lewan, O’Dell Beckham and  Aaron Donald went 9, 11, 12 and 13. Picks 5 to 17 all went to the pro-bowl except Gilbert. Cleveland had more than enough options and always took the wrong guys for years. Rebuild works if we draft well. It’s as simple as that. It’s not going to be bad just because we move on and I’m not sure if we will.

First off, hey everybody! I've been stalking in the shadows for years, but finally took the time create an account to join in the arguments myself.

The video from the yahoo article made me think of something I haven't seen suggested. (No one rip me apart here; it's just a theory). What if we're misunderstanding Tepper's comments about it depending on Cam's health? What if his plan is to ONLY TRADE CAM if he's HEALTHY, and he plans to hang on to him if HE'S NOT 100%?

If that were the case, everything Tepper has said is true. It does depend on Cam's health. QB1 may not even know this is the plan himself, and if he feels healthy, he's saying he expects to be back, while (possibly unknowingly) driving up his own trade value.

It also fits Tepper's 5 year plan so to speak. If Cam is healthy, why not pick up maximum value to build towards the future while you can. If he's not, keep him around for the last year to either a) play well, injury free to improve his trade value next year, b) give a young QB a year to sit and learn, or c) warrant a long term extension to be a part of the 5 year plan.

Tepper didn't make $11 billion selling assets when they were at their lowest value. Why would he say his plan was to trade him only if he was hurt? To my knowledge, he never said Cam would stay if he was healthy and be released/traded if he was hurt. He said the decision depended on his health. Maybe we just misunderstood what that meant?

Again, I come in peace. I know the "Cam haters" want to trade him if he's hurt and the "Cam homers" wouldn't dare trade him if he's healthy. I'm neither. I'm just tossing it out there for thoughts. So be gentle.

2020 is the dawn of a new chapter in Panthers history and i just don't see Cam Newton being part of the rebuilding process. However,i wish him all the luck in the world where ever he goes. If i am wrong and Cam somehow stays here,  he will have my full support.

I don't see what the ownership has done wrong

You can't commit to a franchise QB before ya know he's even even healthy!!

That being said, I am okay with whatever happens. I gave up on Cam reaching his potential years ago, and I don't blame the team for that either.

Cam nailed his own coffin shut when he made that rambling video admitting he hid the severity of his foot injury from the team.

Scot Fowler,Charlotte Observer said  about Cam Newton > "Everything seems on hold for now, until that magic March 18 date."

"In the meantime, Cam Newton’s long goodbye will continue. The end is coming, though: gradually, and then suddenly."

Everything is on hold but he’s saying goodbye?

What do you mean?  Lying about injury is serious.  He has a track record of it and he's hung the team out to dry because of it multiple times.

Come on man

this has  been talked about before

if  all of his  coaches watching him in practice and all the trainers and all the doctors could not tell he was  hurt than either they are blind or they wanted to be blind

you figure it out

Honestly, the best thing for Cam and his career is play here next year. He goes anywhere else, they are trying to get a contract done then and there because if he balls out, then he is stuck with that contract. And any other team is going to backload that money with Cam and that first year he wont make as much as he would this year with the Panthers. Any other team would low ball him due to his injuries. Stay here and play 1 year show you still have that talent and skill, then if we want to keep him we can, if we dont then he walks. But then that puts the Panthers in bad position, so we would have to trade something to get fields because we definitely arent getting sunshine.

Guess what...?  Those coaches and doctors aren't here anymore.  That should say something.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
