BREAKING NEWS: David Tepper speaks on Cam Newton status with Panthers

There’s no breaking news here whatsoever.  Might have well started a thread “BREAKING NEWS: Tepper says the sky is blue” and then a certain demographic will come in saying that obviously means Tepper is going to trade Cam because blue skies come before the storm and Cam might slip and reinjure his foot in the rain.

Does not sound like someone putting the message out that Cam will be the leader of the team next year. I don’t understand the vibes they are putting out on Cam. Why wouldn’t you at least fake it to help trade value. What the benefit of being so bleak?

There’s no vibes at all. It is what Tepper says. There’s nothing to read between the lines. Tepper is going to wait and see how Cam’s health is. Nothing more to it than that.

Of course that’s what he said.  Cam’s not gone unless his health doesn’t check out and those that have been salivating at the mouth to get a good ol boy at QB will try to extrapolate more from Teppers comments than that, but that’s all it is.  Teppers not going to commit to Cam until his health status has been made clear.  If Tepper has proven anything its that he means what he says, nothing more nothing less.

Ostrich comes to mind here

Not a good bargaining chip to be questioning the QBs health if he wants to trade him. Cam is not going anywhere. Tepper is a smart man, he would be using phrases like "Cam looks healthy" and "He's progressing well" if he wanted to trade him.

So the only way Cam isn’t back is if he’s not healthy? Does that mean that we just reach an injury settlement with him and move right along if he isn’t 100% healthy?

To me it sounds like they are setting us up to deal with the reality the Cam era at the very least could possibly be over.

I mean why wouldn’t he at least come out and say without a doubt he’s our QB. If he’s not healthy week 1, we will rest him until he’s ready to go?

Look I understand everyone has to see Cam when Healthy. Why would you say absolutely nothing positive though when this comes up. You know how the media is and how everyone speculates, especially when it comes to a superstar like Cam Newton who was a former MVP and the leader of the franchise. Take off the blue glasses and look at this from another perspective, if any other teams GM and Owner made comments like this it would seem like the QB would be on the way out. They can change this by saying anything positive about Cam and how they have all intentions of having him lead the franchise if healthy. It’s not hard to do:

example:

“Cam Newton is one of the most talented QBs in the league and if he’s healthy, he’s our QB... next question”

That’s a big difference from this:

“Listen, I’m not a doctor,” Tepper said, via Steve Reed of the Associated Press. “I’ve said it a million times. Is he healthy? He’s not a doctor. There’s a lot of different things that can happen, but first is, is he healthy? Tell me that and then we can talk.”

this is so bizarre.   trying to say this means nothing, what else is he supposed to say.... seems silly.  as someone who is ready to move on from cam, and ready for cam to have a shot away from this franchise for his own good also, as in i think its a win win -  this is just so bizarre no matter what a persons personal wants are.  whatever is going to happen i don't think i like the way tepper and marty are handling it in public.

That's absolutely not what's going on.

No team is going to take Cam Newton without getting a good look at him and talking to the doctors when the time comes to trade or keep him around in the coming weeks. This isn't the dark ages, you can't keep those things secret for a player in cases like this.

Tepper is just saying the generic lines he's suppose to in order to answer the same questions he's been asked for weeks, and will be asked in the coming weeks.

He has answered the same question for weeks but said absolutely nothing positive about Cam, or that the team intends to have him lead the franchise next year. If he would have said one time that Cam, if healthy would be our guy, no one would speculate anything.
