Tepper is most definitely not a smooth, polished public speaker.

Limiting how much he speaks to the media is probably a good idea.

Honestly I hope he reached out to Cam and clarified somethings after that. The media is taking what he said way out of context.

Agreed. I got a completely different perspective after hearing it myself. The media made it seem like he was leaning more towards getting rid of Cam. After listening to him, I get the idea nothing's changed from the original plan.

This feels like an instance in which the simplest explanation is the most likely. After watching the video clip, rather than play coy, it seems to me that Tepper is visibly irritated after being asked the same question again when he had already provided the obvious, direct answer. Any analysis regarding Newton's future starts with whether Newton is healthy enough to continue to play at a high level. If the answer is no, your decision is made. If the answer is yes, you can start assessing how healthy? How high of a level? For how long? You can analyze the costs and benefits based on that assessment.

In the meantime, it's only prudent to plan for contingencies. None of that contradicts Cam's statements about being here if he's been told, "Cam, if you're healthy and can play at the level you've long-demonstrated you're capable of, of course we'd love to have you." After having the time he's had to heal, it's reasonable to assume that Cam feels there's no question he gets back to that level.

I get that much of what we have to work with on a message board like this is speculation. However, here it just doesn't seem warranted when we can simply conclude that Tepper lacks tact in addressing these issues to the media, is not interested in obfuscation (whether out of philosophy, hubris, or naivete as an NFL owner), and simply provided a straightforward answer to a stupid question, asked twiced, aimed at stirring controversy.

I don't think there's anything to clarify.

His status is up in the air, which is pretty much what Tepper said.

Starting a fresh, soon-to-be-elite, QB while you rebuild versus starting Cam while you rebuild will most likely net the same result. So why not get the QB who will still be here when the team is ready to go for it all? It's just too bad we're not in a Draft position to get that QB.

And who might that be...a free agent...a risky draft pick,  most likely be ,in the second rd...AN Eason, if you will    The answer shire isnt on the roster

IMHO.  ...Cam at 70% of 2015 is better than 90% of the QBs currently playing..and this team has too many holes to ransom this year’s draft  and the next two  on a Burroughs or a Tua or god forbid, Blaine Gabbert the second. (Herbert)

Draft...which we can't do.

A 70% 2015 is better than 90% of current QBs? Lay off the weed, man.

The best way to avoid any irritation: stop holding court with the press.

Why would Tepper publicly cast doubt around Cam’s health if they’re trying to trade him explain the logic for me guys

He got caught with a question and tried to default to a previous answer that he used a few months ago but then that sounded dumb now and he didn’t know how to recover.  He is learning on the job and needs to start no commenting on a lot more.
