He had some good games this year but faded and then got hurt for the year. Our run D was bad all year so he wasn’t ever “great” and he sucked in all fashion in 2018. After season ending injury, he’s not close to worth his cost anymore.

He got pushed around plenty in his first year too, and it didn't even take a double team to do it.

Right after we signed him, some of the local radio guys interviewed an Atlanta radio guy who told them we were going to be disappointed once we saw him play.

He was right. Poe had a flash or two but for the most part wasn't very good.

i agree with your last statement

once our linemen started dropping like flies, I can see how he faded when he was the only respectable force and as a result got double team. You can't look at player production in a vacuum you gotta consider all factors.

Too bad Marty restructured Short or he’d be another easy cut. He’s not worth an additional $14M in new cap for 2020. We just wasted $4-5M to restructure him last year. If we keep him this year we basically spent an extra $18-19M in cap. We did nothing with the extra cap space.

Time to draft a good NT.  We tried with Bulter, who is a bust, but have had no better success with free agents either.  Short still can be a serviceable 3-tech, but I would hope that would not dissuade the team from looking at other 3-techs in the draft either.  I could very well see us double-dipping at DT this draft.  This run defense HAS to get better.

I agree. I understand the OL stuff and I want to draft some pieces there too, but I’m willing to let Allen and Grier die for a good cause to go for Lawrence/Fields/Newman/other QB in 2021. I also don’t mind ignoring FA to get as many 2021 comp picks as possible. We pick 7th (and 6th/5th in some rounds) this year and probably top 5 in 2021. We should get some talent. Throw in the comp picks (I could see 5-6 from rounds 3-7) to add more darts or heck move up a few times so we get everyone that drops we like. That should be a really nice base (please Marty don’t suck or the next guy) plus a ton of cap too.

Yup, I've fully embraced this rebuild.  I want to create as much cap space and get as many comp picks for the 2021 draft as possible.  The goal is in year three (2022) we have a good, young team that can contend.  With just two drafts there will still be some holes remaining and that's where all that extra cap room comes into play.  By avoiding FA as much as possible and letting our cap room roll over twice, we can really cherry pick those last few key positions in FA going into 2022 to put the team over the top.

I hope Marty is up tonight reading this....

the fug yall talking about?

he was playing great for us until his injury.

that said, get that old ass injury prone guy outa here and save the money

but don't be actin lost in the head by saying "he was terrible in charlotte".

Not true at all. He’s been terrible more often than not his time here. Briefly before his injury is the only time he look at least average for his salary. And clearly being average was too much for him and his body.
