Here are the current standings:

New Orleans 7 0 0 1.000

Minnesota 7 1 0 .875

Philadelphia 5 2 0 .714

Dallas 5 2 0 .714

NY Giants 5 3 0 .625

Green Bay 4 3 0 .571

Atlanta 4 3 0 .571

Chicago 4 3 0 .571

Arizona 4 3 0 .571

San Francisco 3 4 0 .429

Carolina 3 4 0 .429

First of all:

The division winners get in.. so far.. Minnesota, New Orleans, Arizona, & Philly

Secondly:

The next 2 best teams get in.. so far.. Dallas & New York

Scenario:

We beat New Orleans (4-4)

Byes: Minnesota

Dallas and Philly play, one of these teams will fall to 5-3

Chicago and Arizona play, one of these teams will fall to 4-4

IF San Fran loses to TENN, they fall to 3-5

IF Green Bay and ATL lose, they fall to 4-4

IF NY loses they fall to 5-4

New Standings:

New Orleans 7-1

Minnesota 7-1

Philly 6-2

Dallas 5-3

NY 5-4

ARIZ 5-3

GB 4-4

ATL 4-4

CHI 4-4

CAROLINA 4-4

SAN FRAN 3-5

The playoff teams would then be Division leaders: NO, MINN, PHIL, AZ

The wild cards would be: DALL & NY

All the other teams are only one game out... including us!

Although we have lost a lot of these tie breakers.. our upcoming schedule is favorable to get HOTTT!!

And I know a lot of this is speculation.. although not too far fetched... but this is the NFL.. you never know what can happen..

****************

My point is... for those that think we are finished for the season.. think again!

After New Orleans our next four games are ATL, MIA, NYJ, TB with 3 of 4 at home (@NYJ)...

they have a combined record of 11-18...

****************

JUST MY OPINION!!!!

lots of "IF"'s in there!

sure, we can bend and twist the numbers but the truth is, there are 3 teams in the nfc east better than us and 3 in the north, 2 in the south and 1 in the west as well as the 49ers who are tied but have a better conference record which at this point, makes them better.

a wild card will require 10 win minimum and there is a very good chance a 10 win team will go home. for us to win 10 games, we can only lose 2 more!

we've got the saints, dolphins, falcons, jets, patriots, vikings and giants.

we can only afford to lose two, and even then, we might miss the playoffs. to guarantee a wild card, we can only lose one!

the loss to the bills ended our season!

if we lose this weekend to the saints, that leaves us one loss to give to the falcons, patriots, vikings and giants.

(don't forget we play the saints againt the last game of the season. we must hope they have the #1 locked up so they don't play their starters, otherwise, if they are still fighting for homefield, then we have 2 games left against the saints!!!)

we're not going to the playoffs playing like we are currently playing. one great game running against the cardinals won't work the rest of the season. they will shut us down even if it means putting 9 in the box and forcing jake to throw under pressure! he's proven he can't get it done. jake can't win games for us. and we will need him to in order for us to get there with the terrible hole we dug ourselves into to begin the season.

if we beat the bills, and had a third loss to give, we might scrap it out. the bills game killed us.

realistically, i still see us at 5-11, maybe 6-10 at best.

well, the schedule doesn't look as hard as it did when the season started...it hardly ever does, though.

bills loss is going to be the major sticking point. that game should have been a win. if anything bites us in the but, it's going to be that one.

falcons aren't losing to the redskins this week. they lost 3 in a row....losing 4 is highly unlikely, esp. to the redskins....in georgia.

packers won't lose to the bucs either, though i could kind of see that happening. they have to win sometime, don't they?

zona is gonna beat the bears cause they aren't playing in phoenix.

iggles going to beat the boys but they and the giants will still be well ahead of the panthers or anyone else in contention for a wild card spot.

one of the 3 big NFC east teams is really going to have to take a nose dive to make way for any other team to have a wildcard.

at this point it looks like the NFCE could have 3 teams in the playoffs and there really isn't anyone close. falcons and packers...maybe. neither team is really looking like they are firing on all cylinders right now.

panthers have a long hill to climb and some other teams have to really tumble. pretty much 4 or 5 have to drop off a cliff while the panthers climb to get in.

it's possible but not very likely at all.

Does anyone remember the bills game a week or two ago?

Was thinking the same thing. We have one good game out of 7 and we are talking about playoffs.

I really dont see us beating NO this weekend. I wish we would, but they have been looking good all year. We looked good for one game.

If we make the playoffs then Fox stays, Jake stays, and we have another season laced with possible mediocrity where we are all pulling our hair out over the decision to make Jake the starter again.

I will say this again. When we win its in spite of Delhomme...not because of him. Teams like us don't win the super bowl. Not with a QB that is a threat to implode on any play...
