I really like both QBs you mentioned. You just aren’t guaranteed either of them. One could regress next year or decide to stay their senior year and we might screw up and win a couple games.

I’ll be honest with you, if we don’t resign our FAs and play Grier, we are absolutely the favorite for the top spot. No guarantees but we play in a decent division where 0-6 with Grier is almost a certainty. Playing the NFC North and AFC West is probably a 1-7 or 2-6 at best. 4-12 is my absolute best case scenario with Grier. 2-14 is likely.

One thing I will agree on. I don’t know what direction this team is going. So many mixed signals that I’m baffled. I see people mentioning tanking to get players. If I find out a team that I commit money and most importantly time to decides to purposely lose, I’m done as a fan. It’s all about time which we can never get back. I get planning for the future and all but, I don’t know. I just feel a certain way about a team purposely losing which I don’t think really happens but what do I know

It's also entirely possible that we'd be completely in the tank and still not get the top overall pick.

Look at the Dolphins for example.  For weeks they were essentially noncompetitive and looked to be the most obvious tankers since the 2011 Colts.  They're picking 5th.

Rebuild around what? If you want to rebuild you want picks and you want high picks in the next couple drafts. What do we really have to build around? We got worse in 2018 and even worse in 2019. We had basically the worst defense in the NFL to end 2019. In the second halves of the last two years we are 1-15.

Please explain what pieces would make us in a better spot in 2-3 years if we go 6-10 and 7-9 than have a couple more day two picks and be able to get one of the top 2 QBs in 2021.

The anti-tank people have unrealistic view on the talent on this team. We’ve got CMC and Moore. Other than that we are pretty much average or below at almost every spot.

Rebuild around Cam Newton that's what. You think a 3rd round draft pick is going to be better for this team's future than a healthy Cam Newton? That's a pretty funny joke go ahead and take a look at Marty Hurney's 3rd round picks the last several years because that's the type of player you'd be getting rid of Cam Newton for.

If 2-3 pieces of the Oline were replaced by next season it will be VASTLY improved over a season ago. CMC improved to an all-pro player and quite possibly the most dynamic non QB offensive player in the NFL. DJ Moore developed into a 1k receiver with very little help at Qb. Curtis Samuel will also have another offseason to improve on top of anyone else the staff will bring in to compete. this offense can most DEFINITELY be dangerous with a healthy Cam at Qb. Yes, the defense will need to be rebuilt and barring a drastic turn around will be the main reason why this team won't win many games next season no matter who is at quarterback. Cam keeps us competitive. Without him we could very easily become the worst team in the NFL for the next decade.

san diego gets cam and our 1st.  carolina gets sd's 1st and a late 4th or early 5th (maybe a 3rd instead?)   if there's a deal i think it'll be close to that.  we're not getting their 1st for cam alone.  that's ridiculous, that's ignant

Exactly. The Broncos sent a 2019 fourth-round pick — the 113th-overall selection — to Baltimore as compensation last off-season. We might get a 3rd rounder for Cam - maybe.

Maybe I'm being a homer, but a healthy Cam & what he could mean to a franchise is better than an older Flacco who doesn't look like he has much left in the tank.

That might work too, but I'd be trying to get more than a fourth or fifth.

If the Chargers give us a 2nd this year and a 2nd in 2021 i could see us taking it.

The Scout's Report

—What will the Los Angeles Chargers do at quarterback? All signs from league sources indicate the team will draft a signal-caller—either Justin Herbert or Tua Tagovailoa—in the first round, but within the last three days there have been a number of unsolicited calls and texts about a trade for Cam Newton.

This makes sense.

The Chargers need a quarterback, but they also need to sell tickets. Bringing in a household name and marketable option is business savvy and football smart if Newton is healthy. The most likely move is still to draft the next franchise quarterback at No. 6 overall, but there's enough buzz surrounding a Newton trade to mention it here

There are gonna be butt hurt people regardless, but my money is on Cam not being a Panther next season and I could be wrong.

Really--people are just analyzing what they think the Panthers will do--business side.  Nobody is going to be "butt hurt."  It is not personal--however, if being divisive is important, then sure.  The only people who seem poised to be Butt hurt are the people who think this is all about Cam more than it is about a franchise.
