Thats what I was going to say. I wouldn't even entertain them unless they include pick 6

THEY are pick 6. WE are pick 7 my dude

Theres no way in hell you give Cam away for 2nd/3rd rounders and let the team trading for him keep their 1st. Wed be dumb as hell to do that.

Yep and that 5th year option is HUGE. My bad I knew they had 6 idk why I wrote 7, but are they the ones inquiring to us?

If they go full on tank mode and win like 2-3 games next year, Ruhle won’t make it three years here.

What? Why would he be out in three years because of a 2-14/3-13 season in 2020? Tepper has already said it will take years and there might be a lot of losing. Rhule comes from rebuilds. We are in a great position for 2021 comp picks and we are in a great position to build up our cap space. If we don’t make any splashes in FA and trade Cam, we will be a 2 or 3 win team. Tepper won’t fire Rhule for that because that would be the plan that they and Marty have. Tepper owns the team, if he agrees with the plan, why would he care about 2-3 wins? If after the 2021 draft we have Fields or Lawrence or a QB that jumps up the chart (Newman or Trask) and a whole lot of young talent from the 2020/2021 drafts and a boatload of cap space, most regular fans will be fine.

It would have to be a great deal, in other words, have to come out of the trade clearly winning the deal.  Trading Cam for the sake of a rebuild is pretty stupid.  I think the realistic target for playoff contention is year three.  Therefore, if the Chargers send us a package over two years that can help us fill the numerous holes we have via extra draft picks...particularly day two selections, then it would be worth it.

I normally agree, but I look at this from a different perspective.  I think they are going to trade Cam or cut him--the reason I think so?  Why try to trade him now (If this is true)? They want the cap room for free agency?

I think they would let him go for a second or third rounder--or a first in 2021---for Cam.  Here is why:  What if Cam plays well and wants $36m?  The fans would storm the castle if they let him go.  At 32, he is on the decline.  They have not shown support for Cam, no supporting him as their starting QB etc. while rehabbing--he is just rehabbing.  So if we look beyond 2020, a good Cam 2020 puts them in a very difficult situation, and I do not think they want to lock into Cam Newton at 32 for 3-5 more years.  Trading him now, they can justify it to the ticket holders.

I think it would be more apt to say if rhule delivers 2-3 wins in 2021 he won’t make it three years. But as you say, Tepper has made his bet here. How far will he ride this bet is the question if everything goes to poo.

He already has Hurney as a scapegoat this season and Hurney is in a contract year. If he rehires Hurney it will tell you a lot.

San Deigo may not want another veteran QB, but for a third rounder, for example, this is what they would get:

A starter with a brand name who can help sell tickets in the new stadium.  What a splash.  LA likes their stars--Cam, Kobe, Lebraun....it is a competitive market and seats are hard to fill.  The Panthers get a third rounder (I think they could get a second or a 2021 first rounder if he passes the medical) then the Panthers get $19m and a nice pick for Cam.

such a shitty deal, i wouldnt take anything less than a 1st rounder this year

If you do something like that, then the tank job is on

Getting only a third would be disappointing. I think fans are making too big a deal out of the cap space we'll gain with the move. With all our needs, 19 million will get used up quick. It's not nothing but it's definitely not what some are making it out to be when accounting for all factors with the upcoming season.
