Chargers receiving "Unsolicited Calls" Regarding a Cam Newton Trade

I get your point but does it make sense to rebuild a team around a QB on the downside of his career? Cam has had a lot of injuries and has a ton of mileage on his body. Rhule will be towards the end of his contract by the time Cam retires (if he makes it to 35-36). From Rhule’s perspective, I get why he would want to take a chance (and any QB is a big gamble) to bring in a young new guy now or next year. Honestly, I have the feeling this is more Teppers plan than Rhules, but we’ll see what happens.

Rhule will definitely have a huge say on who is Qb is going to be. I understand both sides of the argument as well the only difference is Cam is already on the roster, and keeping him not only gives you the best chance at becoming a successful team sooner than later but it gives you more time to find who the next guy is going to be. If we get rid of Cam it will just feel to kneejurky because hes the franchise qb and they do not grow on trees. Selling out for a top pick in the 2021 draft is such a stupid idea at this point. We haven't even watched any college games Lawerence, Fields or whoever could have a terrible year, get hurt, stay for another semester, and then what? Sell out again for a high pick in 2022? 2023? Keep going until we get our guy? That doesn't make sense to me when you have Cam Newton on the roster who is DEDICATED to this city, to winning, and finishing his football career as one of the GOATs on the roster under contract already. And hey guess what?! If Cam fails, gets hurt, can't play anymore well guess who gets a top pick in the 2021 draft anyways? That's right! We do!

Exactly. The Broncos sent a 2019 fourth-round pick — the 113th-overall selection — to Baltimore as compensation last off-season. We might get a 3rd rounder for Cam - maybe.

Lol at comparing a former MVP to a guy who’s only claim to fame was a great playoff run. Flacco sucked when Denver made the trade. They just wanted a starter while Lock got ready. A team trading for Cam is trading for him assuming he’ll be their franchise QB. Flacco has a career high of 27 TDs. The past 5 years he’s averaged 14 TDs a year. Flacco was going to be released and not due to salary, due to being bad.

I truly believe it's as simple as this.

The decision makers have already decided that Cam is not getting a long-term deal. So either he is moved for something in return or he walks for nothing next year.

Either way I don't expect Cam to be a part of this team after this upcoming season, and probably not for this upcoming season.

And as much as I love Cam, I honestly don't mind if that's how it plays out. There has been dramatic change throughout the team in a very short period of time. It seems as if it's just time to let go of the past and move into the future.

Here is what the writer said verbatim:

"but within the last three days there have been a number of unsolicited calls and texts about a trade for Cam Newton."

Okay... that's about as vague as a "report" gets. Hell, this clown could've called the Chargers himself to ask about a potential Cam trade and gotten laughed at and hung up on by some receptionist and he'd still technically be reporting the truth. The Chargers would have received unsolicited calls regarding a trade for Cam Newton.

If we end up getting anything for Cam it will be a win.  They are definitely moving on from him.

I don't like it but it’s happening.

I mean I hope you are wrong but it certainly feels this way. I just don’t get it. If he is healthy and can play they should at least give him one more season.

If they are planning to move on it is an incredibly bad look to have Cam out there thinking/saying he is staying.  Not to mention just wrong.

I don't see the ammunition for the Chargers to pull off such a trade package anyway.  A former #1 overall pick for.......?  A trade to swap #6 to #7 is a mere 100 points, which is a laughable 4th round value.

That swap crossed my mind.  If they do that they are almost certainly looking at Herbert.  Feels that way anyway.

I agree. I understand rebuilding but to go full tank mode for no real reason other than to try and secure a top pick in the 2021 draft before the 2020 draft even happens is just asinine thinking. Which, if we get rid of a healthy Cam, is exactly what we'd be doing. A healthy Cam in this offense with an upgraded oline and a young innovative mind like Joe Brady can DEFINITELY win some games and make this team exciting to watch next year. Will we be superbowl bound? Highly unlikely but if we "rebuild" around what we already have then we will be in a much better spot 2-3 years from now rather than trying to sell out for the fuging 2021 draft.

Rebuild around what? If you want to rebuild you want picks and you want high picks in the next couple drafts. What do we really have to build around? We got worse in 2018 and even worse in 2019. We had basically the worst defense in the NFL to end 2019. In the second halves of the last two years we are 1-15.

Please explain what pieces would make us in a better spot in 2-3 years if we go 6-10 and 7-9 than have a couple more day two picks and be able to get one of the top 2 QBs in 2021.

The anti-tank people have unrealistic view on the talent on this team. We’ve got CMC and Moore. Other than that we are pretty much average or below at almost every spot.

Who is texting who first. Like are the Chargers inquiring about Cam? Only way I would do this is if they give us 7

Thats what I was going to say. I wouldn't even entertain them unless they include pick 6

THEY are pick 6. WE are pick 7 my dude

Theres no way in hell you give Cam away for 2nd/3rd rounders and let the team trading for him keep their 1st. Wed be dumb as hell to do that.
