You sold me.

Lets get rid of every player on the team that cost us a game last year because they messed up.

I am waiting to hear that 98% of the team is being cut.

His 40+ and 50+ stats are extremely important because thats where his misses are.  You are quoting his misses while avoiding the context of those misses.  If our offense wasn't messing up  (Sorry, Kyle Allen, CMC, Moore, Samuel.  all should be cut now.  They could have done better in 1 or 2 plays in those same games I am sure) then he wouldn't be kicking from max distance so often.

Where did I say that we should get rid of him? The only issue I have is that you are pretty much quoting only his 50+ stats and using that as justification to say it wasn't his fault he struggled. No, he just plain struggled. Those were the facts. It didn't mean he was awful but he was mediocre at best overall.

Other than the fact I quoted his 0-39 yard stats (9-10), his 40-49 yard stats (8-11), his 50-59 yard stats (8-11).

I focused on where his misses actually where.  What would you like to talk about concerning him hitting 90% when within the 40?

You mean that fact that he was 27th of 33 inside the 40?  You are SUPPOSED to make those kicks as an NFL kicker.

And because our offense was so horrible, he barely got to actually kick it inside the 40.  Considering he literally had 1 miss.

These are the kickers that went 100% from unside the 40.

Luts (16), Lambo (21), McManus (15), Boswell (19), Bullock (16), Seibert (15), Bailey (19), Tucker (17), Myers (17), Elliot (15), Crosby ( 14).

Thats all.  If they had missed one, they'd still be ranked ahead of Slye purely because their offenses were good enough to actually get them close enough for more than 10 attempts within the 40.  That is 11 kickers that were actually perfect from within the 40.  The other 16 had a miss, but because their offenses werent poo, they had more attempts to get a higher fg%.  Slye didn't.

I am willing to give him another shot. I hope Gano can reclaim his consistency and be the guy, though. I feel better about him than Slye.

Why would we keep paying a high priced aging and recently injured kicker on a team in the midst of a rebuild?

It's basically Slye and whoever else we bring in as a camp body.

You aren't being rational about this. The kicker's job is to kick and make kicks. Joey Slye was mediocre at that in 2019, in a bunch of different categories. He struggled, flat out. Not ALL the time but enough to matter and enough to aid us in losing games. You can try and justify it any way you want but it doesn't change the stats or the facts.

I don't care if we keep him or Gano or we get someone else, I just want some more consistency from that position. I really don't even know why you are so passionately arguing that he DIDN'T struggle. I think it was pretty obvious to the rest of us.

You can’t reason with Slye fanboys just like you can’t reason with the Gettleman contingent.

I mean.  Sure.  I'd love Slye to be more consistent as well.  I haven't been trying to say he was a top tier kicker.  Or a pro bowl kicker.  I was only pushing back against the mindset that some people seem to be perturbed that he was even resigned on a low risk deal when I don't feel he was as bad as the stigma being placed on him was.  Does he need to improve?  Definitely.  But is he bad enough to be kicked to the curb with no replacement in sight?  No.

Especially when I am unsure if there are many kickers in the NFL that would have drastically had better kicking stats with Slye as long as our offense was as horrible as it was last year.

Good. He has potential. If his yips continue, he can be replaced easily. Just glad we’re done with Gano.

I wouldn't say we are necessarily done with Gano. I think that depends on his health and whether we are planning on keeping Slye. The 1 year deal doesn't really indicate to me that is the plan currently.

Cutting Gano will only generate $1.46 mil in cap space with $3 mil in dead cap.

I find it amusing when someone says "Slye sucks" or "Slye struggled" as their argument, and my response is factual information...I am being the one called a fanboi you can't reason with.

One one side we have people avoiding information.  On another side we have people adding additional information.  The informed side is called the unreasonable side.

And for what its worth, I am not a Slye fanboi.  I don't care who our kicker is specifically.  I don't feel Slye has done enough to lock down a long term deal.  Only explaining why I am not against a 1 year low risk deal.

PS.  I did my best to avoid those pesky things like "facts" and "context" that apparently makes you poo posts.

He only really "struggled" because the team struggled.  He had a very large amount of 40+ and 50+ yard kicks that no kicker in the NFL was taking.  Our offense was so bad and would regularly sputter out, we'd send in Slye every time we hit the 50 yard line.

Why disappoint the fans and have the offense sputter in the red zone? Just have them quit around midfield and let the kicker try. Fans have a better chance of getting excited about a long range FG than a 20-yarder from inside the red zone.

I don't think anyone was really perturbed by it. It makes logical sense to sign that tender because it has minimal cost and zero risk. He's a good insurance policy until Gano is healthy or until a better option comes along. He probably won't lose us as many games as our QB's, OL or DL do if we don't improve those situations.

    • It wasn’t completely his fault, but outside of two throws and one or two scrambles he didn’t do much to help. His accuracy was all over the place, numerous passes that were placed poorly and didn’t give the receiver a good chance to catch the ball or do anything with it after. He also continues to display terrible pocket awareness. Even the sacks could have been avoided, they weren’t immediate like the pressure we got on Shough at times. Bryce just often has no feel for pressure and stands there waiting to get sacked after numerous seconds have passed.
    • I really fuging hate this era in so many ways.  I look at those Adin Ross and Neon kids, and I just wonder why tf are they famous?  Why would anyone be desperate enough to gain THAT audience that they’d risk money, career, disciplinary action to go up there and associate with those fuging dweebs?  And back in my day, racist peers got their ass beat.  And not endorsing or approving bully culture, but checks and balances and all…  had those two been bullied, or at the very least humbled, they wouldn’t be famous and glorified for being the fuging idiots they are now.  It seriously pisses me off… they both have done and said multiple, openly racist stuff and major media keeps pushing them, talking about them, and propping them up… and then dummies like Puka who don’t need the platform or exposure lend their celebrity to them.  fuging idiot… and even the other streamers, I don’t get - Speed, Kai…  I don’t understand making nobodies famous at all, but there is at least entertainment value to some degree there, and I could see how young, impressionable kids would find them something to aspire to (sadly), or view as “cool.”  But Ross and Neon?  They’re just shitty, shitty nerds with big ass mouths. I’ve went back recently and watched some classics (in two very different eras and categories 😂)  like Robocop and Idiocracy.  And what I find fascinating is how both movies illustrate how stupid society became by showing what the citizenry is entertained by.  In both, society became anti-intellectual and the citizenry were entertained by lowest denominator, primal-type absurdity - poo like, “Ouch! My Balls!”  Or on Robocop, a guy is a watching a show where they are smashing cakes on ladies’ breasts and then a guy says a line as the camera zooms in like, “I’d buy that for a dollar!” and the audience thinks it’s hilarious.  That’s where I feel like we are now.  Like who watches that clip with Puka and thinks any of that poo is funny or cool?  If I was Puka, I’d honestly be wondering why tf I’m hanging out with these beta ass, racist, cretin ass weirdos.
    • 7 wins this year and some of those against really good teams and yall think Canales might get fired? Lol Good luck getting a better coach in here if that happens.
