And that is how Rhule has been able to compete--he was not given five starts recruits--he had to find those nobody wanted and develop them.  That is called coaching, something Rivera (and Fox to a degree) did not seem to do well.  If the ONLY way to win is to develop players instead of recruiting/drafting them, it sure changes the way you look at this...This is refreshing to see.

The issue I see is that Rhule didn't find any success against actual good football teams. In his entire college head coaching career, he notched exactly two wins against top 25 teams. Those two top 25 teams were ECU and Navy.

But he took 1-win teams---using mostly players those big programs would not even look at--and was competitive vs the big boys.  He played Oklahoma and Georgia--both top 10 programs, very closely in 2019--eventually, the team with the better players is going to win 95% of the time. In other words, the final score vs. the games against the best programs rarely fell toward him, but not many teams have winning records against top 25 teams. I mean, he was only at each school 3 years--kids he recruited were sophomores (red shirt) and juniors while his redshirt juniors and seniors were kids recruited by a 1-win coach.   He beat programs that were beating temple and Baylor when he arrived--he just needed longer to get over the hump.

If AJ Terrell is available. Several teams in the top-16 picks have their eyes on the Clemson CB.

Terrell is going to go higher than most think.

Damn....I was hoping that he would slip to us.... he is my favorite CB not named Okudah.

Good news is that the depth of CB1-caliber corners will allow for one to be there for us in the 2nd round. If it's not AJ, then maybe someone like Gladney, Diggs, Fulton.... idk.

Maybe. We saw that he could turn low level and mid-level college programs around, but we never saw that he could either A) break through and make a low level or mid-level college program elite or B) sustain the success that he'd built.

There's a lot of things to like about Rhule, but there are a lot of huge questions currently unanswered too. If I was a fan of a college program that hired him, I'd be excited as hell but as a fan of an NFL team that has hired him, I have a lot of trepidation.

After the first 2 CBs there doesn't seem to be a consensus at all.

Its going to come down to fit and scheme.

You can disregard the idea of value and reaches with them based on what you are seeing in the media.  Guys like Terrell are all over the place, 1st round on some list and 3rd on others.

He had awesome games against Colorado, Washington, Stanford, and Wisconsin (As far as using all the tools in his box). There is a sort of consensus that he was not coached up the way he should be, and will be able to thrive in a more open offense in the NFL. That Oregon offense was straight up not built for him. Not to say he doesn't have some pretty glaring flaws in games, where he just is impatient or seems to forget what play was called. He is not a starter in 2020 probably.

And the last sentence is exactly why I don't understand his draft ranking. You don't take a guy in the Top15 who aren't going to play day 1. Hell, you don't take guys in the Top 30 you don't expect to at least contribute during the year, even at QB.

Yet this kid is a Top10 draft choice? I just can't wrap my head around it.

Mahomes went #10. Rodgers went #24. Neither were drafted to play as rookies. I'd say the Chiefs and Packers are very happy with the picks they made in those respective drafts. Honestly, if we draft Herbert I think the plan will be to not play him as a rookie and let Bridgewater play the Alex Smith wet nurse role that he played for Mahomes during his rookie season.

And he also regularly played against lesser competition playing in the Big 12.

He took over lesser programs though.  He was not taking over Alabama--he was taking over teams that played 5 homecoming games a year on the road.
