A 2 ye/3M total contract with 500k guaranteed is inline with someone expecting to start? Something he has done 12 times in 6 years and is 30 years old. That is simply not true at all.

compared to the all of the CBs that are making 600k, yes

Also I said start OR be in the Rotation.

Also Kerr has the 24th highest cap hit on the team, so its not like he is at the bottom.

By no means does Kerr prevent you from drafting a DT at any point in the draft but I was talking relative to the CB position.

Unless they trade back a few slots (which I can see them doing) I don’t think they take him at 3. Everyone and their dog has them taking Okudah because of the Slay trade and I get that but they paid Flowers a ton of money last year (only got 7 sacks). I think they may want to try and beef up the interior of their DL to help Flowers out.

I also wouldn’t rule out a QB. They’re a real wild card. You think they take Okudah at 3?

I think so. Patricia runs the same style as Bill and the Patriots. A CB 1 is probably their most significant position and where Bill always pays people. I think their press man style screams Okudah and he would be a perfect fit. I could also see them taking Simmons from us as well.

What sounds better?

Short and Kerr as your starters?

  I see no “rotation” anywhere?

I really hope we sign a CB before the draft. Even bringing back Javien Elliot and/or Ross Cockrell would give us some kind of depth at the position that we don't have now.

Their market value could go up after the draft, but it is a pretty deep CB draft.

On paper, the CB position is a bigger need, and honestly the contracts kind of say the same thing.  Kerr's contract is more inline with someone expecting to start or at least be in the rotation.

This doesn't mean we have to spend the first on a CB but I can't see how people think DT is a lot bigger need then CB.

The question of :

Short and Kerr as your starters?

or

Jackson, Elder, and Luke as your starters?

was a worst case scenario, then later in the post I stated

"Kerr's contract is more inline with someone expecting to start or at least be in the rotation."

Burrow, Tua, Herbert, Young and Simmons will be the 5 guys for sure gone by 7.

The 6th will either be one of the LT’s or Brown.

No Okudah?  If we come out of round 1 with Wills or Okudah or Brown---win.  I think the pick is Simmons--it is like math, man.

I think the only guys with zero chance of being there at 7 are Burrow and Young.  I'll explain:

Tua:  I think he goes in the top 6 but teams could be nervous of the medical.  Especially since access to prospects this draft season has been limited.

Herbert:  Maybe Miami and/or Chargers decided Herbert isn't worth the pick and they decide to sing a FA QB like Cam and use their draft pick to help the team around him.  Chargers could sign Cam, draft a LT, and with that defense they have be very competitive next year.  Cam is a pretty nice option to have if you aren't sold on one of the top QBs.

Simmons:  Bengals-Burrow, Washington-Young, Lions-Okuda, Giants-LT, Miami-QB, Chargers-LT or QB.  Simmons falls to us.

Okuda: Redskins or a team that trades to 2 (maybe Miami) takes a QB then Lions could take Young.  Washington could then take Simmons, Giants take OT, Chargers take QB or OT.  Maybe Washington takes Young then Lions shock everyone by taking a QB.

Lions, Giants, Chargers and even Miami could all take Simmons. I just don’t think he makes it to 7. Redskins could even trade out of 2 with one of the above teams and take Simmons.

The only team that could potentially take Okudah before 7 would be the Lions.

*Part of me is probably just trying to talk Simmons to us into existence because that’s who I want but I just don’t see it happening

I get what you are saying and appreciate the different perspective.  Too often we get locked in on one possible path and become blind to other possibilities.

The good thing is this:

I do think 2 QBs go before us---probably 3.  That leaves 4 position players.  No matter how it shakes out, we will get the leftover from:

Young, DE

Okudah, CB

Brown DT

Simmons LB

IF 2 QBs are taken, then all of the 4 above are possibly gone.  That means we are set for a trade back (someone wants one of the OTs)  OR someone will move up for Tua (I think he will be the third QB taken)

Not to get long-winded, but If LAC wants Herbert, they are going to move up--trading with Detroit or even Washington--they know Miami has been looking at him.  That could mean Miami does not want Tua--so they could get crazy and trade back or go Love.

This is going to be fun.

Tua won’t go that high.

It is starting to look like he is the wildcard that could turn this thing on its ear.

I see at least 2 QBs, Young, Okudah, an OT (no idea which one), Simmons, Brown.

Carolina, if that happens and their guy(s) are gone (Brown and Simmons), should trade back--and there will be offers.

The rumor that Miami is looking at Herbert could be a smokescreen to create leverage with Redskins or Lions.  If they think Miami in not as desperate to move up they might take less to actually trade with them.

This time of year its best to ignore all the rumblings and just use some logic.

Both Miami and LAC have a need a QB, both could trade up or stay put.  That is really all we know for now.  Burrow going 1st and Young going top 3 is about the only thing I'm really sure about.

Also this might be why Cam isn't singed yet.  Maybe they don't spend assets to trade up and stay put.  If their QB falls to them, great, if not they sign a FA one.
