According to Tony Pauline. There is a great chance the Giants take Derrick Brown. Gettleman really has a weird fetish for Hog Mollies and specifically DT's

I’ve said it before but I think there’s no way they take Brown. They’ve got 4 guys at DT that in the past year to 3 years they’ve spent a 1st, 2nd with a franchise tag, 2nd and 3rd. Outside of RB, DT is there best starting position and their deepest position overall. Having holes at CB, LB and T, there’s so many top guys that fit them. Other than saying he loves hog mollies, it makes zero sense and T is a hog molly position too.

Small school quarterback Ben DiNucci in demand

Ben DiNucci of James Madison is another signal caller who could surprise, this time in the late rounds. The Pittsburgh transfer was not graded by scouts entering the season despite his terrific junior campaign. DiNucci followed that up with a senior year that included 3,441 yards passing and 29 touchdowns as well as a completion percentage of 71 percent.

For some reason, DiNucci was snubbed from all the postseason All-Star events. He has had numerous video conferences with the New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, and Chicago Bears.

He went to Pitt two years before transferring to JMU. Could you imagine if this guy ends up working out in the NFL? This would be the second time in the last decade or so that they had a legit NFL QB transfer out of their program while producing virtually nothing at QB themselves in that time frame. Ouch.

Yea, it's wild especially when you take into consideration Gettleman's only questionable OL that he drafted was Kugbila (which can be chalked up to injuries more than a lack of an eye for talent). Turner, DWill, and Moton have all been super solid (well, DWill was until his body fell apart).

Then again, when we look at his UDFAs + FAs... I mean, Byron Bell was asked to do way too much but wasn't a bad find all things considered (it wasn't his fault that he was left handed!). Chandler tho? Foucault? Kalil & Remmers!?!? Uuuugh.

Ok, gotta be fair to Remmers... he was better than Byron Bell. He just shouldn't have been solo against Von Miller in the SB :(

Remmers was an amazing free agency find for his price and history, and Norwell as UDFA was about as good as you can ask for.

Gman drafted Star and KK back-to-back, most thought he was crazy, even many in the panthers war room. That was the right move. SHortly after he drafted bulter, Then he drafted Lawrence this past year, he likes drafting DTs. It wouldnt shock me if he picked brown, even with there being no need.

Star and KK started their rookie years. Completely different. Same with Lawrence. He started his rookie year and Gettleman hadn’t traded for Leonard Williams. Butler was drafted when Short was in his last year and Star had two years (5th year option). Star left. Gettleman franchised Williams this year after trading a 2nd for him at the end of last and has stated he wanted to extend him. Throw in two backups drafted in the 2nd and 3rd with 2/3 years left on their contracts as well.

I understand that he has drafted 3 DTs for us but two were taken when we had no one at DT and the other when we were about to lose one or two (we still did lose Star, Marty signed Poe). I just don’t think people saying Brown are actually looking at the Giants roster or realize that drafting Brown this year would be like drafting Butler 1 year after drafting Short and Star, not 3 years after.

Collin Cole started over KK, if I remember right. You know they rotate DTs and Gman liked having a strong rotation. I will say drafting Bulter as a late first, that is waaay different than #4 overall. It just wouldnt surprise me,  he said a few times " I know what a feeding frenzy looks like " when talking about DL. He referenced that for "his" superbowl teams having deep DLs. Besides I bet he doesnt draft #4, teams will be throwing 1s, 2s and players for that pick.  Gman weakness is linemen, remember drafting Ealy(no need) and Kugzilla(said he had AJ Klein rated higher) as other times he spent picks on.

Yep, I thought he started some, but he didn't. He did play 50% of the snaps, just didn't start. Star started every game and had 60% of the snaps. Actually, in looking at the snap counts, Edwards and Cole only played 30% of the snaps so seems more like a Ron "starting" a vet but Star and Short were the top DTs.

My point, that everyone seems to gloss over is that the Giants are loaded at DT and taking Brown would be like taking Butler (at #4, not #30 as you mentioned) in 2014 with Short and Star as starters drafted in 2013 and if we also had 2 backup DTs that we took in the 3rd in 2012 and 2nd in 2011.

Do I see Gettleman taking Wirfs, Simmons, Okudah or Thomas, sure. Brown, not a chance.

Not a chance. I'm leaning towards Wirf at this point. Leaving us with Simmons.

i don't think moton has anything to do with taking an elite T in the 1st. okung is a stop gap and moton isn't all world and has injury concerns if i am remembering correctly

If brown, okudah and simmons are off the board at 7 I can almost guarantee we will draft thomas, wills, or wirfs

You're not.
