I hope Rhule can inspire this type of confidence in Cam or whoever plays QB in the future

When Patrick Mahomes threw his second interception of Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs down 20-10 to the 49ers in the fourth quarter, there were a lot of people who thought the Chiefs would lose because the quarterback picked the worst night to have his worst night as a professional quarterback.

Head coach Andy Reid was not part of that group. After his team rattled off 21 points in a matter of minutes to swing the game, Reid said that he never doubted that Mahomes would come through for his team.

“I never think that,” Reid told Peter King for Football Morning in America. “I always think with him, keep firing. I’ve seen this before. Right when you don’t think he’s gonna do something, he rips your heart out with great plays. You saw that with Larry Bird. Larry Bird might’ve gone cold for a little bit but he kept shooting. That’s what you do with the great ones. This kid’s young, but he’s great. He’s gonna do nothing but get better.”

Mahomes is 24, which is the same age that Bird was when he won his first NBA championship. He’d go on to win two more titles and that number seems well within reach for Mahomes even if Reid isn’t right about how much he’ll improve in the years to come.

I give Mahomes and Reid all the credit in the world, but it’s hard to see how Mahomes could actually get much better. Kid had his worst game as a pro and still put up 31 on a top flight defense.

The enormous advantage the Chiefs have right now that will be gone soon is a league MVP qb on a rookie deal. The only way I see for Mahomes to get better is if he’s able to maintain the same level of production after the Chiefs pay him and can’t keep all that talent they’ve surrounded him with and have to let some guys walk.

What amazed me was the fact every time Mahomes would walk off the field and sat down to analyze the drive Reid would say fug it. Leave the special teams to his ST coach and defense to his DC to deal with what was happening on the field and sit with Mahomes and analyze. That is some serious confidence in your coordinators and serious boost to Mahomes.

Which is exactly the approach you should take with a 24 year who is loaded with talent but understandably having some jitters his first time on the game’s biggest stage and might be doubting himself a bit. Kudos to Reid for recognizing what the situation called for and being the steady hand at the key moment.

Hats off to the Chiefs.

Can’t help but laugh picturing Ron sitting down with Cam trying to analyze offensive plays... Oof.

Ron spent years thinking Ken Dorsey was a good enough quarterback coach, and that's after having worked with Andy Reid. But then "good enough" was always just fine with him.

Those "just okay is not okay" commercials always make me think of Rivera.

I'll forever remember Ron Rivera benching his franchise quarterback over not wearing a tie only to watch his backup come in and throw an interception on the first play. That is Rivera as a head coach in a nutshell.

That was completely retarded but the pick was 100% on Tolbert. Just a weird play. But yeah benching Cam set the tone for that game and the team knew it and proceeded to get completely blown out by the Seahawks.

Or letting Cam change the play at the line all year in 2015 only to run the same 5-7 plays in the Super Bowl and stick to the “gameplan”

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
