Matt Rhule and Dave Gettleman: "You win Superbowls by running the bull and stopping the run"

This thread wouldn't exist if Kyle Shanahan hadn't inexplicably abandoned the run in the 4th quarter.

I feel likes it’s more on KC’s D then Kyle honestly. They probably saved looks all season for stopping the run and forcing pass this game and Kyle was simply not prepared for them. By no means is that a statement absolving Kyle though he played his part in it.

The point of the adage to stop the run is to make a team one dimensional and with a good pass rush pressure the QB. Additionally being able to run the ball means you aren't one dimensional yourself . KC did that in the second half against San Francisco. Additionally Mahomes did use the scramble to avoid pressure and at the end they sealed the victory with a run. So the adage held true. Sure KC passed a bunch and most teams do pass more than they run for the most part.  That really doesn't make the adage less true

Yes you need to able to run the ball and stop it but having a superstar at QB can cover up a whole lot of flaws. Kansas city has a been down in every playoff game this year and they just won the super bowl because they have a QB that can make plays. Hopefully Cam can come back and do that for us. high five carolina panthers GIF by NFL

People lie about numbers all the time. Cherry pick stats that back up their narrative and discount or ignore numbers that don’t.

KC didn’t win the Super Bowl until last 6 minutes and really not until the last 49ers drive.

KC did limit the run and ran the ball pretty well.

the 4th quarter they completely shut down the 49ers,.. still, if not for Shannahan and some seriously blown coverage on the 3-15 which was the game really, this would all be snot.

Bottom line.................rules have been changed over the year by the NFL specifically to make it a more pass friendly game..........rules to protect QBs in the pocket and rules that allow receivers to breakaway from defenders have given exactly what you see with the KC offense.............a potent passing QB with quick wide receivers that get open...........

If a capable Oline can deal enough with even the best D-line.....like you saw with KC over 49ers recently........ then you can not only win but win from behind........

People who think Defense wins champions and running backs are all it takes to move the chains are going against the grain of what the NFL has changed over recent years in the rule book to alter the way the game is played today.

    • btw, mingo supposed to play tonight.  we want Cowboys to lose for more than one reason, but they are imploding and their 4th round pick is ours. Rams started rough this year, we have their second rounder, and for a while it a in the top 10 picks.  they are going the opposite direction of the Cowboys.  I do think they have Kansas City after us, so that will help
    • You go after my guy with nonsense like "I don't see quickness or explosiveness" and "I haven't seen a lot of quickness or full route tree ability that we always ignore" Then yea, I'm gonna punch back. Like I've said, if people want to draft someone else, that's totally fine, everyone has their own opinions.  But if you're going to advocate against a specific player, don't talk complete nonsense about their game like this. Even more so, don't do that when you're saying I'm the one with a bias towards him. If I was afraid of it looking like a bias pick on my part, I'd never have said I was an Arizona alumni when arguing for him, but I've admitted it from the very beginning, because I don't think my Arizona connection gives me a bias, it just means I know his game REALLY well as I've seen every snap of his college career.  So yea, you start saying the knocks on him are things that he's actually really good at, then you're going to get an earful from me with some video evidence to back it up. In the end, for me, it all falls back to how rare a player like T-Mac can be due to his size.  The smaller speedier type of WRs are exactly who you can find in later rounds and who become available as Free Agents, I can't ever get on board with taking a Hunter (as a WR) or Burden over T-Mac if all were on the board, for that reason alone, and I'd say that if he was a freaking Sun Devil, no matter how much it would hurt me to admit if it if that were the case.
