Thanks.

This offseason and three next are going to be crazy.

There is some speculation that the comp pick system will end with the new CBA---not sure why, but fwiw.  Not sure what years that would impact either.

Kalil/Luke killed our dead cap.  Olsen's doesn't help but his number isn't nearly as dire.

I don't worry about Cap as much as others, but correct me if I am wrong:  We had an escape clause in Kalil's contract after 2 years---then he was extended my MH, making the rest practically guaranteed.  That alone should get Marty fired, if I am correct.

With the horrible Kalil contract and Luke's contract we are pretty much screwed this year. We could cut some players but it want really matter much. We just need to sign quality players in FA this year on one side of the ball and rebuild the other side next year. This team is so devoid of talent it's not going to be fixed in a year or maybe 3. You can thank JR, Rivera, and Hurney/Dave for that.

Gettleman gave Matt Kalil a 5 year 55m contract.  He was never extended.  He played 1 year, was injured the next.  Then cut.  He was only in a Panthers uniform for 2.

That’s a fact but I doubt Cam would be so public about him playing for the panthers if there were a chance we trade him this year.

I think he was given a vote of confidence, based on what the people around Cam are telling Marty and Tepper---but I understand that the are going to put Cam through a workout before the draft.  If that is true, I do not see how anyone can get pumped quite yet.  It is a positive sign, however.  Cam is very optimistic, so he is perhaps the least reliable source, but he was given a vote of confidence--which is basically all he is saying.

The more I think about it, the more I see (if healthy) a season here (which I compare to a one year "prove it" deal, is best for both sides.  If Cam were making $30m, nope.  However, at $21m, easier pill to swallow--and you can cut him and create cap room whenever (not sure about the deadlines).

Thanks--I could not find evidence to support my hallucination.  I may have him confused with another player.  What a waste--he had the size, the athleticism, the pedigree---and will spend millions of dollars taken from people who wanted him to reach his potential.  Even though I love money, and in the end, that is what is most important in terms of achieving security in life, but it would bother me the rest of my life.  Money taken from fans who buy tickets only to watch you suck every week.  Sad.

25m was gtd, even though he was routinely rated as one of the worst linemen in the nfl.  Gettleman gave him a back loaded contract, which is why the deadcap hurts the most (from him) now.  He was only like a 3.5m and 6.5m cap hit for the 2 years he was actually in Carolina.  Over all, we saved money releasing him.  But the deadcap is just coming home to haunt us this year.

Don't quote me on this, but there were some rumblings that teams might have to spend money they have this year and won't be able to carry over funds because of the CBA expiring after the season and the threat of a lockout.

I'm quoting, as I've read the same thing. The team will not be allowed to spread the cap hit into next year because the CBA is expiring this year. It all hits now.

Well we need LG, DT, DE, CB (2), FS, Edge, LB (upgraded), and extend CMC. That money will go fast...

The last time I looked, we were below average in available cap room--like going to an auction with people with deeper pockets than yours.   Which is not necessarily bad. This list is why, in my opinion, this rebuild is a 2-year process, which has been Rhule's MO.

I would add C to this list, based on last season.

The problem is this F/A class is kindof the suck

If we’re tanking that may not have any effect anyways. Tepper won’t pay money just for the sake of paying money. If it helps our team in the long run, yeah, but I don’t think he’ll have a problem sitting on cap space that could be useless next year, if we’re intent on a full rebuild which seems likely.

I don't believe teams will be able to do post-June 1st cuts either, unless the CBA is extended beforehand
